New member. With Driver conventionally at setup feet, knees, hips, shoulders, club face parallel to target. I’ve found Success at driving range driving ball more easily and farther with Shawns method, but need help with how are my feet, knees, shoulders, club face to be aligned at address now? Closed stance with Everything slightly to the right? Best video to address these questions? Thanks
Hey Kevin! See “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” and there is one for the driver in there but you want to see the whole thing; see also “blur of club”
so when you go back to the “diagonal stance series” which we confirm draws and fades with this set up, you will understand that it is not about piece meal positioning of body parts at address, it is about alignment of the flow of momentum into the direction you want the ball to start and then get out of the way and just witness the shot.
Great lesson. My home videos confirm a head sway or over rotation = slice, pull or s***k. I seem to remember decades ago newspaper golf teaching strips with Jack Nicklaus’ father holding his hair to prevent sway. The question of why the dysfunctional movements occur is a great one. I hear the S.C. voice in my ear “ you are not defective” . ..Job one is to have the vision of the shot and stay with it for the whole process. Thanks.
I always go back to the “what was the last thing going through your mind just before you swing”? You will see that this matches up very well with the body language of the shot! The kinetic chain engagement #6 is especially good to practice and review before you see tomorrow’s video.
Hello Shawn,
So now I think I’m tracking…it’s not where my feet are aligned and the face of the club is pointing at address… BUT where the blur of the club face is traveling in relation to the intermediate point and the grip-club face relationship to make the desired ball flight happen for the pictured release (draw or fade)?
WOW! That is totally different than how I was taught and makes way more sense. I’ve been unfortunately mixing the two (more worried about feet and club face at alignment, then trying to get the swing path in the proper direction from that standpoint) for a couple weeks, but I believe your final comments near the end of the video clears this up! Awesome.
For your other comment about the alignment sticks, yes, spot on!
we want the flow of momentum (search arc-blur and unstoppable momentum in the search box and watch those) to move in the direction through the ball and over the IP and you want the stance to support this easily for your body; goldie-locks to the rescue.
Additionally, as a follow up to my previous comment….I was wondering why you don’t have an alignment stick by your feet to check alignment…now I think I understand why.
It seems it really does not matter where your feet are aligned, it more important to make the swing path go in the intended direction based on the intermediate point and have the feet spacing/direction to support that intended path and desired release/flight plan.
My alignment stick is now going vertical and will become a door jamb!
Hi Shawn
This video is superb as it confirms something that as a barrel chested man that I have done through trial and error but have always looked for validation. The statement let your arms hang from the shoulders has been catastrophic for my swing over the year’s. However as soon as I return to arms on top of chest ( my way of saying trail elbow below the pec) i start striking the ball out the screws and can fade or draw on demand. Funny how validation of something that you feel is correct for oneself feels so pleasing and confidence building.
Thanks Michael
Shawn,
When I stay on task the results are incredible. But i still have trouble staying on task consistently. I found something that helps me stay with the shot. This drill is supposed to help with rhythm and tempo. You count one and two. One starts the down swing, and starts the down swing and two is through the ball. What i found is if I focus on my target, as soon as get the feeling of where I need to release to, I look down and immediately count one, which starts my swing. The counting definitely helps with my rhythm but of seems to clear my mind and let me focus on the target. What are you thoughts here? Am I headed down the right path?
Hi Scott! I can’t believe I missed this one; make sure you email me directly as sometimes our systems update and things start going to my junk email; very frustrating! Awesome comment, reminds me of the old Fred Astaire Golf Dance video on youtube. One of my best rounds at Seminole Country Club was with a rhythmic focus like this TOWARDS A FLIGHT PLAN. Right on! Did you also see the comment above by Matt Davis? Another gold thread; plus without his, I would not have seen this one! 👍😀
Hey Marc! You bet! The technique between bunkers and flop shots are identical twins; one cuts through a dandelion stem and the other sprays a divot of sand onto the green.
Thanks forbthe reply. Only recently have i decided to focus on your simple task mind connections coupled with improved technique. Am pleased to let you know am enjoying the whole golf experience so much more. This after so many years of tough experiences. Have never had better contact than right now. While i still miss some shots, some ugly, they are far better. Am starting to have some really wierd CONFIDENCE, in my technique… Really Shawn… I bet you hesr this many times each day… I had been so discouraged i wanted to quit so many times. But now I have a chance to actually develop my own game, based on the WIG models. In gratitude… James
Watching the video “Braced Tilt” it has confused me when mentioning “pre-turn”. If I take my neutral grip with a slightly closed club face at address; and then square the club face while still at address by tilting to the right, is this the braced tilt? I guess I saw a video before I became a premium member where a “re-turn” was demonstrated and so I was confused when in the “Braced Tilt” video, you said “…we’re going to get rid of that [pre-turn]. Could you please clarify for me?
Hey Michael! You are close; if you blend this with the task of the “hammer drill” video, you want to feel that you are bracing yourself into the doorframe but not to the point where you get in front of the door frame. SOLID FROM THE RIGHT SIDE INTO THE LEFT SIDE.
Hey Shawn! I played high school and collegiate golf but always struggled with consistency of my golf swing and seen a few of your videos about the swing and I am sold! Scrap everything and start over, let’s grind.
One of these 2: Simon Moore and Thomas Gresen for letting us use their music in our content. go give them a listen at https://www.soundclcoud.com/user-73416670 https://www.soundcloud.com/thomasgresen
Hi Shawn – This is my first post. I took a number of lessons from you at RHGC years ago, and happy to have recently joined your website. I played my first round this past weekend. This video is of particular interest to me, specifically the first part of the video. Just to confirm, when practicing at the range, I line myself up and keep the visor of my hat in line with my swing plane? Anything else I should do to ensure I’m doing this properly?
Hey Michael!! Great to have you man!
Side vision can be a beast for many; see the “blur of club” and then the “arc-blur” videos that come up in the search box; always have an intermediate point to deliver into your pictures.
Hi Shawn, been practicing this lesson on my side and noticed improvement in accuracy but I also noticed an increased in launch angle in general by a few degrees. Any idea why and how to reduce my launch angle ?
Hey Yann! See all the “release” videos from the search box; also see “hammer drill” and “matching task to golf shot low shot” as well as “high and low shots”
