Hi Shawn, I don’t think I’ve come across any of your videos that speak to swing weight. Can you please share your thoughts on this? From what I can tell based on your methods, i would want a decent swing weight that would enable me to feel the clubhead…when i think of tennis ball on string, or hammer for example….as opposed to an club/iron that just feels like a stick, bc of inadequate swing weight.
Hi Shawn – I love this drill. After a couple perpetual swings, I can always feel the levitation and kinetic chain engage, which helps me use the ground instead of the arms. My low point is also super consistent. My issue is achieving this feeling from a static position. Since I don’t have the momentum taking me back like I do in the PMD, I find my backswing to be much more clunkier and not as smooth. Do you have any tips or videos to help me achieve the same feeling as the drill? Thank you in advance!

I’ve been practicing my kinetic chain yesterday and seeing great progress. Practicing is now so much fun when you have a clear task and understanding of your swing.

Hi Shawn, I’ve been having pain in my lead thumb when I’m trying to release the club. I can’t tell if it’s my grip or not enough yield in my lead hand during the release.
As far as the grip goes, I’ve tried your advice of switching to a strong grip. But idk where lead my thumb is supposed to rest at address. Is it to the side of the grip with the club face square, or is it on top of the grip but I rotate the club face slightly closed before gripping it? Which way would make it easier for my lead hand to yield?
I have had that pain; when you stay too long at the bottom and don’t go with to the finish, the club passes your hands while the body stops and you get it in the lead hand, thumb and wrist. In my grip video, we talk about the thumb tip of the lead hand supporting rhe club at the top of the backswing when hinging fully when you take practice swing with the lead hand only. Then you feel the same support at the end of the swing. See Wisdom 1.0 where we talk grip at the beginning. Also the “grip” video at the bottom of the list of videos by date.
So good as always. I have a question about target though. I set up and try to deliver the club in the direction I want the ball to start – having the end target in mind?. Hmm with chip shots I have the landing spot as my target. For longer shots I am a bit confused. On the fairway – still landing spot – or end target. Into the green I pick a landing spot – not the hole.
The funny thing – this is what I always “teach” my talented fellow golfers. I always say to them – Don´t worry about positions. You have the talent. What is your target? – Go there! Your body will lead you there. However I never thought this could occur to me as well LOL. Thank you Shawn.

Best combination while swinging is to deliver the task in the direction of where you want the ball to start (you already did your homework with end target and flight plan of course before hand so you already have the feel for the delivery) through the intermediate point and continue the swing until it’s fully parked in the stacked finish. Then the elements have controls.

My original breakthrough on this was with George Knudson’s book “The Natural Swing” which I find has similar components to yours. What you have been able to do is make sense of it in a way that translates. Now if I can just take it onto the course … Bring on the season ! Thank-You

Hi Will; go to the “goldie locks series” and see the grip and club face video; then you want to get that release into gear with the “lead hand release”, “trail hand release”, “release fine tuning” and my favourite is “snap release polish”
between those 2 series, you get that club squaring up nicely and then see “draw fine tuning” and fade fine tuning to tweak it! Let me know how you do!

Love the videos. I’ve been playing golf for 15yrs with a neutral grip. With all your impressive videos I saw on youtube, I decided to give your grip a shot. I was amazed. On my first outing to the range I immediately gained 20 yards on all my clubs! Not the driver yet though lol. As a reference, I used to hit my 7i 160yard, but now I hit it 180! Your tennis grip analogies is what had me convinced. To many, the service grip just doesn’t make sense, because it feels awkward. I played college tennis and was Nationally Ranked in my 20’s and 30’s, I’m now 49. What’s unique is with the strong grip my arms feel heavy, with the neutral grip I couldn’t really tell what my arms or hands were doing. Now it sometimes feels like I’m switch hitting (I’m right handed). My question is this; I’ve noticed that on many of my videos I have a tendency to stand up at impact, like I’m getting out of the way of my arms. Do you feel that’s distance to ball or lack of throwing the club to the target? Thank you for sharing such great tips!

I’m have just strengthened my grip. I don’t quite understand how you hit the fade. Is it in the setup or is it what you do with your hands when you come through the ball?
Hey Paul! See “fade fine tuning” and “working the ball” videos; ball position and alignment will take care of 90% of that fade, the rest is tweaking the club face more or less open.
Is diagonal stance similar to the closed stance or is it aiming whole body including shoulder line diagonally? I drawed little too much on a few tee shots when I aimed whole body diagonally right of IP.
Hey Sam! Sorry I missed this one! If you watch the one leg drill, you will see you can fade it with that stance too; very similar to the diagonal stance! See “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” for why it draws too much.
Shawn, do you have a release feel while you are performing your tasks and if so, what or perhaps better yet, “where” is it? Do you feel the snap/release just after the ball, 3-4 feet after the ball or even farther after the ball?
Do you feel more of your left side pulling through and up to the finish, or your right side throwing under and through to the finish? Or perhaps both simultaneously?
Hey Mark! The release is about 3 feet past the ball; into the direction you want the ball to start; and the feel now for me as it evolved is through both sides; I get a flavour for lead side on some depending on height and shot shape, and some others from trail side. But those are just flavours and not things to focus on as the main focus is task into the finish.

When you target a short distance, we can see and feel you are using gently the weight of the arm-club unit. But on your first shots, you are really snapping the club, and I feel you are accelerating the club with the arm. Is it a false impression ? No change in the way you let the club fall in both shots?

This is why task is always king! The tone of the body and the engagement of the kinetic chain reacts to that task and the way you want to deliver through it.
