Hi Shawn, How much practice do you recommend for each video session of training before going to the next one?
It depends on the person; but definitely feel that you have digested and applied properly; as you do move on, the other components will help sink the previous things in as they all go together.
Hi Shawn. Great concepts for the proper grip. I especially like the alignment aspect… hammering the nail into the door frame. It feels great and powerful. My only issue with this new process is I have a tendency to now hit my irons fat about half the time. I feel like I am not hitting at the ball. That I am swing out to my target but just hitting some fat. Could I be too inside? Or am I releasing too early? Thanks!
Yes, could be! See “fade fine tuning and hit some fades” and also see “how to match backswing to ball direction” to give your backswing the support it needs for the joining of the kinetic chain in the downswing; another cool series is the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” #6 being my favourite!
Great! Shawn, I really enjoy how simple you make the swing. I have a tendency to over think and work on positions. I am a former college baseball player and now a 6 handicap but seem to have leveled out and not improving. Looking forward to working with you.
Oh, are you ever in the right place! 😀👍👌
Buckle up, stay on this roller coaster and enjoy the ride!
Hi Shawn, could grip size play a factor in “crimping” with the lead hand? I have standard size grips and I find it difficult to crimp with the lead hand. Vs crimping the handle of a baseball bat feels more comfortable.
Yes, that definitely looks a bit small for you! Is that where the grip feels the most solid?
After experimenting I think i tend to hold it too much in the fingers? Not allowing the heel pad to sit on top properly. When I have the heel pad on top it feels like the handle is more in the palm. Still maintaining a 90 degree between shaft and forearm. I’m thinking an online lesson will help clear up some questions lol.
The question is, where in the hand does it feel the most secure when you are whipping the club?
Hi Shawn,
this is the best video I have seen on the grip and what is suppose to happen as in the purpose of the grip. The real nugget for me is the right hand grip being almost at a 45 degree angle but i am struggling with the 2 pads analogy. can you help me with this.
Regards
Billy
Hi Billy! If you go down the list of videos by date or search the “beginner series” and the “grip” and “grip part 2” videos; you will see another perspective! 😀👍
Yes, thanks Shawn. It was just when you said the 2 pads of your right hand I just got confused. Maybe I picked it up wrong.
Regards
Billy
Yes, the pad of the base of the thumb and the pad at the base of the palm in line with the pinky; the thumb of the other hand fits between them to meld the hands together to form the grip-club relationship.
Perfect thank you👍
hi Shawn, quick question.. at top of backswing the lead arm and club form a “L” shape(90deg ish) on the downswing does it feel like that “L” turns more into a “V” (more like a 45 deg ish) as the arms are travelling down and through? i guess thats not exactly a quick question and i hope that it made sense lol
Yes, the lag INCREASES in the downswing as the kinetic chain engages; see “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series”
