Hello!

Today I realized something that would have helped me from the day I started playing golf some 2 years ago and I would like to share this – if I may – with you.
It really starts with the correct grip – it sounds so trivial but it’s a major key.

I was on the range today, hit 2-3 baskets of balls, not really satisfied with the results, but it was ok. When I came home I was in the mood to hit some chips in my backyard and that wasn’t consistent at all. Suddenly I remembered the “grip-videos” and started to get me left hand with the “umbrella grip” and the right hand grip as described here in the videos with the heel of the right hand on the left thumb and the index finger supporting the club.

Heureka! I got crisp contact when chipping, the sound of the ball leaving the club face was great 🙂 and the balls got distance without I was doing anyting.

Basically it means that until now I just “held” the club in my hands and thought it it as it should be – now I recognize that the first time in my life I’m gripping the club and can feel the arm club unit!

Took me time to realize that, but I wanted to share that with you.

Oh yes!!! This is soooo good! Thank you for the feedback and now I have another important check up for students who say they cannot feel the weight in their swings; BECAUSE THEIR GRIPS ARE STILL NOT OPTIMAL! 👌👍😀💪🎯

Shawn: I have 4 concepts going on: strong v. weak; open/neutral v. closed. I am concerned that I am mixing up strong with closed. Do you have “oldie” video explaining the difference between strong and weak? Is it possible to have a weak but closed grip?

Struggling with the same, cause i stumbled over the phrase „grip it a bit more open“ but with a strong grip 😉 Does a strong grip automatically mean closed face or not? Help would be appreciated, otherwise i would like to mention, that this membership is the best investment i did since many many years! Very thankful for this great content!

Hi Thomas! Thank you for the kind words and glad you are enjoying the content! 😀👍
As for the grip, we call it the “grip-clubface relationship” and the key is to make the adjustments in relation to your action release in the direction of the target. See “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” and also the “fade fine tuning” and “draw fine tuning” videos.

This video along with the others has confirmed what I already suspected to be an amazing purchase. What a fun morning at the range. Learned a lot. I know I’m on the right road now! The idea of holding an umbrella just blew my mind!

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for confirming my old grip when I was younger. I had a strong grip for any years and could compress the ball like you say “nicely”. I received golf lessons as a Xmas present years ago and my golf game changed for many years after those lessons. It took many hours of practice to hit the ball but I never felt like I could compress it. I saw your YouTube videos and started watching them. I strengthened my grip and shot a 75 without any expectations. The best part about it was that I was with my older brother when I did it. I explained to him what I was trying to do even without any practice range or warm ups. It was a great day.

Magic! You should have seen my last lesson yesterday who drove 3 hours to come see me for a fitting because one of his friends explained how I get them to try the different manufacturers first and how happy he was with his clubs. The guys shows up with the latest Mizunos with stiff tour KBS shafts and says he is not hitting them well. He has a weak grip, moves forward into the ball and hits down hard and the ball goes left a couple degrees and flutters to the right and he is complaining they don’t go as far as his old Taylor Mades. So we cut dandelions and start flushing the ball in the centre of the face with a much higher ball flight. Check. Then We give him back his strong grip and we start compressing the ball from 150 to 170 carry with a sweet 2 yard draw. We do the same with his 4 iron, then we get his driver to carry 255 instead of 225. We compared the other clubs quickly and he left with his clubs, 2500.00 richer and it cost him a 1 hour lesson.
I LOVE MY JOB SO MUCH!!!
