Hi Shawn. New to the game and found your videos on Youtube. Living in Tokyo so it’s a bit difficult to find English-speaking golf training here (without paying an arm and a leg, it’s already crazy expensive to play a round out here). Just want to say I’m really impressed with how much you break things down but still manage to keep things simple and easy to understand! really looking forward to watching and learning through the premium content!
Tokyo in the house!! Welcome!! 😀👍
Tried using the grip during a round yesterday and felt much more comfortable hinging on the backswing and followthrough. Led to much better shots! But ended up with a blister on the side of the index finger on my lead hand. Just gripping too hard? I overlap but don’t interlock the grip.
Hmmm; means the hands could be splitting apart and the ring finger of the trail hand is rubbing against the index of the lead hand; is the blister in the inside on]f the finger?
I’m having the same issue… And yes the blister is on the right side of my left index finger between the first and second knuckle.
So this means that the backswing turn is not big enough and the lack of rotation of rib-cage and pelvis is restricting the width of the arm-club unit. When this happens, and the upper arm crashes into the upper rib cage, the grip gets pried apart and the rubbing is inevitable. See the “senior series” to open up the backswing and give your grip the freedom it needs to stay in the club without strain!
Ok…one video in and I think this site has already paid for itself! Never had such an in-depth description of the grip like this one….I already see the errors in my way.
Right on James! This is why we call it Wisdom in Golf! Thank you for the feedback and continue doing what you are doing!
What do you mean when you say “anatomical snuff box”?
Check it out on Wikipedia! The anatomical snuff box or snuffbox is a triangular deepening on the radial, dorsal aspect of the hand—at the level of the carpal bones, specifically, the scaphoid and trapezium bones forming the floor. The name originates from the use of this surface for placing and then sniffing powdered tobacco, or “snuff.” It is sometimes referred to by its French name tabatière.
had to google that one myself!
Hello Shawn, I am watching this video (as you recommended on my swing analysis) and just realized that my gloves usually torn specifically on the hand palm zone after just a few rounds (I am taking 6-8 rounds). I really like the titleist players glove but stop buying them due to the above. So it seems like I have a grip problem rather than delicate gloves…
THAT IS CORRECT!!! See “stop destroying your golf glove shawn clement” on youtube! Perfect video to confirm the lead hand grip!
Hi Shawn, while doing the hammer drill I realized I feel a more secure grip with a thicker handle than my golf clubs (standard Lamkin). I use a ML glove size. Do you think it is worth to try to use a larger diameter grip on my clubs? Or probably try with wrap for now?
You would simply need to go to a golf shop and swing a few clubs with different size grips to see which one works best for you;
