I have struggled mightily with putting! The technique you described is so simple and helped me make several 3-10 foot putts today-I feel locked into the intended line-sadly I reverted to becoming ball-bound and not target focused for 9 holes or so but then started to reach greens -actually-I am hitting a lot of wedges 10 yards or 15 yards further so, in a way, my problems are all good!
Good stuff Patrick! Keep up the focus! See the “process” series and “on course” series for more back up.
Hi Shawn, my fellow players tell me that my putting stroke is not straight and I pull my putting stroke from outside to inside. I guess I just have to let my putter make the arc based on gravity, and stop trying to control the direction. Is that the right mental model?
Correct! You want to simply confirm if you INTERFERED with the stroke or not and let it track the arc and then you can use that to help you aim the action! 😀👍
Is that ladder drill at the end the recommended drill when having struggles leaving putts short?
Practicing SEEING THE BALL ROLL INTO THE HOLE AND AT THE SPEED YOU WANT TO SEE IT ROLL IN is the secret to never leaving putts short. See the ball roll into the hole from about 4 feet short at that speed, then let the weight of the arms and putter roll the ball into that picture with no interference or carefulness.
Hi Shawn
Thanks. Right hand grip is not clear to me from these camera angles. Wonder if you have some pics or something for me to get the grip right
Ok, will see what I can do; in the meantime, see “never miss a short putt” and “flow state putting”
Hi Shawn, I’m very excited about joining your premium program… love your teaching philosophy and techniques. I am a 72 year old 10 handicapper, have played golf all my life. Putting has always been the weakest part of my game but nothing like I am going through now. I really like your philosophy of zero manipulation and trusting gravity/momentum. I am great on the practice green. But on the golf course I hit great shots into greens and struggle to 2 putt. Everything just breaks down. It is so frustrating it has me thinking about quitting the game I love. I am obviously a total head case. Do you have any advice for me? I’ll do anything to become a good putter!
Hey Rod! I see a lot of head cases, so you are not alone! 😝😝
See the latest “never miss another short putt” video; it is really terrific! Have you tried to putt while looking at the hole?
