Shawn: Very helpful video lesson. It all makes sense to me, and most of the time it yields great shots. However, I continue to get a very disturbing number of double hits when chipping. More frequently with shorter shots. Any suggestions?
Make sure you see all the chipping and short game videos in here as they are by far the best; the key is to use ONLY THE WEIGHT OF THE ARMS AND CLUB to perform the task of cutting the dandelion stem; no force, no interference. It is either ball position or direction of backswing not matching that forces you to get involved and that is when it gets messy.
Thank you very much. Your work is fantastic!
Thank you Gary! So glad you are enjoying it!
Shawn, wanted to ask you about a very helpful swing thought I use that really helps me make good contact with the ball in my full swing. The thought (and feeling) is “Throw your elbows down the swing plane to start your downswing.” I think it is a more active way for me to “Let my arms fall.” Without the throw elbows thought I early release my hands at the ball nearly every time. With the throw my elbows thought I get beautiful lag, collect the ball and throw it without worrying about my release. Has this been something you’ve found helpful for you or your students? – Thanks, Craig
Very good Craig! Right on! See “football drill series” and the “throwing series” to go with this train of thought and the next premium video will have a fantastic addendum to what you are doing, so you have my complete thumbs up to stick with it! The “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy is another great one too!
Which video is the follow up to this one?
I would go to the kinetic chain series; the pitching video in there is terrific.
Hi Shawn, loving your teachings and trying to unlearn 50 years of “guesswork golf”. 2 days ago I played 9 holes in 3 over with a double on the last hole for driving my first tee shot OB. Was ecstatic about quality of my shots with your method. Yesterday I played in a scramble and after starting great I lost my swing. My theory is that I wasn’t keeping my hands below/in line with my sternal notch as you instruct in the chipping video. Instead, reaching and pushing arms out of sync with body turn. How important is “keeping your hands in front of your chest” in the full swing? I’m guessing that might be the root of all my problems (when I’m having them). Thanks, I believe in you and think you have the “unified theory of golf” from putting to driver that I’ve always believed was out there. – Craig Hofer
You bet Craig; what you simply need is one of our tasks (choose from the “top 3 tasks” and “task cybervision” or “throwing the club” videos and then hone it with “blur of club” and “arc-blur unstoppable momentum” series and “perpetual motion drill series” where you will feel the rhythm of the arm swing vs body turn. Then when playing it’s:
1-flight plan
2-intermediate point
3-predict contact and direction based on your task delivered into the flight plan
4-once in place, what is the feel of the task into that flight plan (see pre-motor cortex videos)
5-enjoy the ride!
“Don’t let it hit me.” This is big to me. When I have been throwing to target, my miss has been having me throw around my body instead of with my body. There is some latent fear of letting my body go, because i think ball will shank out to the right.
To be able to predict exactly what will happen and calm your nerves for the shank, you need some solid references. See “blur of club unstoppable momentum series” and “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” to know you will deliver a solid strike if you stay on task.
