Per your swing analysis, I’ve been looking at and working on posture today. I was still struggling to keep my head behind the ball/behind the hit. I searched for “head position” and came upon this. What I realized is that for years…and I mean YEARS…I’ve been tilting my head 20* to the right w/o the 20* turn. So, essentially, at setup, I was taking my right ear toward my right shoulder. In this position, the backswing caused my head to move back on top of the ball almost immediately. Been working on some rehearsal takeaways this evening with this 20/20 position, and it does help keep me behind the ball, however, the muscles in my eyes are really strained now. Like, they are fighting to keep my eyes from doing what they’ve naturally been allowed to do for years now. I hope I can retrain myself. I am going to post a picture here of my new posture/setup ASAP to hopefully get some brief feeback.

Jason Tolbert

I came to the conclusion I was doing the same thing and running into similar issues. 20 tilt without the 20 turn. It’s been tough to break the habit.

Gregg Carr

I am slowly getting the head position. I am just having issues looking up to admire the shot I was supposed to be making. What suggestions or drills do you might have to help

Shawn Clement

Hey Gregg! See “target confirmation series”
when you stay on task to the end and you know what the end looks like and feels like, you stay with it till then and problem solved! 😀👍

Robert Sanders

Oh yeah! Worked on head position to go with the tilt and what a game changer. I could never seem to have any momentum on the downswing. This did it for me and I finally realized what unstoppable Kinetic chain was all about. I can flat crush it now, also by having my head too vertical was aggravating a neck issue I have in my neck vertebra.

Changing my head position just slightly made a huge difference in being able to rotate more in the back swing. What is interesting is it is a slightly different view with my head slightly turned but man it unloaded my neck vertebra and if I do not see that different view I know I have my head too vertical.

Shawn Clement

Awesome awareness right here Robert; CONGRATS!! This is how you get to the next level! 👍👌💪😀

Are you presetting the downswing head to make it easier? Jack would empty the water in his left ear on the back swing but hold it like you describe on the downswing. He was one of a kind and I do think the average golfer is hurting their swing potential when trying to copy highly gifted athletes who also practice for hours every day.

Shawn Clement

Great observation Tim! Then you look at Lee Trevino and see his head tilt that matches the direction of swing; Jack had a good teacher but they were still concerned with positions and ultimately, what won for Jack is his relentless pursuit of the target and the “moving picture” he was hitting into which corrected his tilt on the downswing; like Rory and many others…

When you make a solid turn and at the top of your backswing you are still balanced 50 /50 is there a weight transfer to the trail leg? If there is transfer when? it must not be there for very long until your weight needs to be transfered to the front side. You have a longer pause at the top so you have time to make the weight transfer back? My change at the top is not that long so sometimes I don’t seem to get transfered forward in time pushing my shots to the right? What am I missing?

Shawn Clement

Hi Craig! You are missing absolutely nothing! We should never think about how and when to shift the weight as we are gravity geniuses! 😝😂😀
See “the walking drill” and the “feet together back to feet apart” video as well as the “pumping up the swing” video. Then see the latest “off season training series” and “kinetic chain engagement series”
Enjoy your Pinocchio without strings! 😀👍
