Shawn, one problem I have is that I will sometimes hit a ball thin when in the bunker. Hitting the sand first is challenge. Basically I would need to hit the ball fat. And that is not how you should do it. I need some thoughts on how to keep the lag but still hit the sand first. Thanks.
Ha. Love your comment about the Golf Channel Shawn. Another media source like Golf Digest, etc etc offering tips instead of a system. Years ago when you were in the running for their teaching, they couldn’t pick you because it would have turned the teaching world on it’s head!! Meanwhile, regular guys like me, who have played for 50 years and have taken lessons throughout that time, remember zero about them.! I use and remember your system, exclusively. I am a solid 6 handicap at age 67 because of it. Thank you.! Doug D
Thank you Dan! Appreciate you chiming in; have an awesome day!
Shawn
I bat about .500 from the bunker. 50% stay in the bunker and the other 50% are home runs out of the park.
I’m scared to death. Is there anything I can do to avoid this? It seems my club deflects of the ground into the middle of the golf ball.
What is your focus in the bunker? What are you getting ready to do at address?
Shawn
My focus is on moving my knees towards one another and trying to stay back.
I have a hard time aiming behind the ball as my instincts have me lunge at it. Therefore, I wind up putting it about 3 inches ahead instead of 1/2 inch.
I still sometimes hit it first or deflect into it. I suspect I’m not getting out of the way on the backswing or forward swing, which may result int my wrists collapsing and the lunar ball.
Man, that is the last thing you want to focus on! Always focus on using the weight of the arms and club to spray a jet or divot of sand onto the green where you want to land the ball; eyes on the sand about an inch behind the ball AND THE FOCUS IS TO USE THE SOLE OF THE CLUB TO SPRAY SAND and thats it! Never think about body parts; only sand in the direction you want it to go and the distance you want to land it on the green.
Thank you. I’m going to give it a go. This is a great video. Thank you for all of your awesome work.
Should our backswing be wide just like in a normal shot? I feel like I pick it up and try to make a V with my bunkers shots. I usually leave them in the bunker because I take too much sand.
hello shawn; it’s so easy when we see you to understand; thank you; in my golf it has been before and after shawn clement; each time i look a video even several times for the same video i always understand something new and this holistic approach is fascinating ;billions thanks; dr jjl
Thank you Dr JJ! The greatest form of validation is when we get Medical Doctors like you with the best Anatomical background which stems from a deep seeded way of studying anatomy; your mind can see the perfect harmony between this task of golf and how the human body was made and the human brain was wired to use this body. MASSIVELY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO NAVIGATE THIS SEA OF RIDICULOUS OBSTACLES that the golf industry keeps throwing at us. You could say Wisdom in Golf is a shield in a huge tomato fight! 😝😜😀. LA TOMATINA!
Shawn, your teaching is the best. After plalying for over 50 years and watching way too many videios of other teachers and reading many golf books, I settled on your teaching over the winter here in Ohio. I then purchased the premium subscription. It is well done and have helped me immensely. I have increased my driver distance by 30 yards just by studying the backswing lessons…elevating a little more and going back a little farther. I no longer watch golf channel or read any books except Anatomy of Greatness.
One question about the book., should we try to apply the “stretch – shortening cycle ” ?
Thanks again for your fantastic teaching…I wish you were in the states so I could attend your school !
