Hi Shawn – are the hands and handle forward and weight on the front foot like the flop shot? Thanks.
Hey Marc! You bet! The technique between bunkers and flop shots are identical twins; one cuts through a dandelion stem and the other sprays a divot of sand onto the green.
Great, love the 45 deg. closed face for the buried lie.
It is awesome huh?! 👌👍😀
I think I am making it more complicated Shawn. I’m in heavy sand fluffy but wet under the surface. Short shots with a high lip I seem to slam it into the lip of the bunker and if it gets out it goes nowhere. I’m trying to use less strain but seem to be straining way more than necessary with no return. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW, no problem with the plugged lie setup. Seem to do that with no issues. Thank you so much for all your continued support. You have revolutionized my approach to the game and now it is fun and enjoyable.
Merry Christmas!!
Gary from Tucson AZ
Hey Gary! Have you tried just spraying sand for a 1/2 hour to different parts of the green with no ball? Then place a plastic ball marker or poker chip down and blast a couple of those out and then put a ball on top of the poker chip or marker. This way, your brain has time to make the transition and SEE THINGS CLEARLY before you take the shot! 😀👍
Shawn I’ve recently subscribed to the premium offering and having watched a number of your videos already the improvement to my game is progressing significantly in the right direction – Thank You!
Can you enlighten me further on general bunker play please. I infer head tilt and turn should be similar to other shots ( 20 degrees) ? Is there also a preferred line of direction to the target line (i.e. xx degrees to the left if right handed) which seems to be the common thread from other golf coaches?
Regards Bill
Hey Bill!
Bunkers have been made so complicated it is not even funny; I can see that you are looking for more than what is in this video; please don’t look for any more as there isn’t anything else to look for! 😝😜
It is a fade-you aim 1 yard left-face 20-30 degrees open-spray sand using momentum into that direction and onto the part of the green you want to land the ball on-hear that spank deflection sound of the sole along the sand.
Hey Shawn, what is the technique of hitting off of hardpan for Greenside bunker shots? Dick in Menifee, CA
Hi Dick!
I did a video on this at Royal Quebec this summer;
