In the LEVELS video you discuss level of effort. Does too much effort inhibit the release and vice versa? What exactly goes wrong when you produce too much effort? Do you have a video about this subject?
Too much effort wreaks havoc with the timing of the swing; causing spin outs, late weight shifts, early releases, thin and fat shots.
You want to think of it as a solid offensive second serve in tennis.
3/10 for effort, 7/10 for velocity gets best power delivery every time. See the “kinetic chain series”

Sometimes I get the distance to ball just right but my posture is off and sometimes it’s the opposite when they are both right I flush it any drills or thoughts for getting both of those right I’m guessing the perpetual motion drill is one any others thanks
This is an important question! Thank you Cliff!
Without the “dynamic” posture, which is the one that will transmit the energy properly through the kinetic chain (see kinetic chain series), you would get some misfires that would affect distance to ball for sure;
Systematically when matching set up to flight plan, you would have picked an intermediate point, then set yourself up within it for stance and ball position; THEN COMES POSTURE, then distance to ball, then tweak club face and grip to match flight.
The acid test is the mental prediction of when you deliver your action in the direction you want to start the ball, it feels like the posture will support the action and the distance to ball and ball position jive nicely!
Thanks Shawn great stuff would the perpetual motion drill also tell you if your posture and distance to ball match up?
As long as you feel a nice constant protrusion of the butt through the legs into the ankles; yes1
Hello, i believe i may be in a similiar boat regarding lie angles. I have been hitting the ball well but very weak with long clubs off the deck. Today i thought id try to hit 3 iron like a wedge, push my arms up/forward not sure why just felt right and wow started crushing it. I believe it was the sole of the club hasbeen too upright and i have been making unconscious adjustments with shorter irons as its only minimal and also potentially have been standing too close to ball. Time to go find a good fitter! Hopefully these j36’s will bend a little
Setting up with the clubface slightly closed, will it , without manipulation, return to square on the down swing?
Yes, you bet! But the deal is you need to be swinging towards the target and not towards the ball!
Would it be correct to say that ifi was to set up with face open ala flop shot that i should be aiming to square clubface thus more body rotation and fade/slice feel?
For distance control do you play around with choking down on the grip to take off yardage with a full swing not having to use Goldilocks? Or a combination of the two?
I stay away from gripping down; unless you already do this for your regular golf game which is completely fine! Just don’t do anything to dull your sense of Momentum!
USE A TASK AND PERFORM THIS TASK SOFTER OR MORE ASSERTIVELY depending on the shot. Cut through more softly; throw to the direction you want to start the ball more gently so that there os never any guiding or deceleration!!!
