    Hi Shawn,
what I have learnt is for irons eyes between the ball and the leading edge,
for driver on tip of tee or at least and idea where the tip of the tee is.
For 3 wood or hybrid or irons off the tee , would the eyes be on the grass or tip of tee?

You could do either one! 😀👍See which works best! Send the tee into the direction of flight or the grass clippings; see what your mind prefers.

One of the best videos Shawn.
Hugely clarified a few things for me.
Sending grass clippings towards left or right of IP was my magic moment, along with two swing drill. Finally found something that I could trust and predict. Which was huge! Will try and repeat to see if it was not just a fluke.
Also always kept my eyes on the ball, will try keeping it between the ball and leading edge.
Had not been able to hit consistently ball after ball, finally did that today. Felt great joy today.

How does the two swing shot work?
I was all over the place and when I did this all of a sudden I was accurate and very consistent with a beautiful ball flight? Then I tried the sending grass clippings with the sole of the club. I could turn pro right there and then. 9i – 150 yards soaring high and accurate. (I have mentioned this in another video am so excited).

In in the end you said keeping eyes on outside the ball or front, thought it was between the ball and the leading edge? Should I try the 3 eye positions and see what suits me?

The 2 swings forces you to stay beautifully centred; the brain understands that there are 2 swings to make and has to stay centred and braced inside the feet to contain the swing’s centre; this is why it is such a great drill! And yes, the eyes could also be slightly inside the ball too; they are all good because it is just a place to park the eyes while your focus is on the momentum delivering through into the direction you want to start the ball.

  • From Matthew Costello on WISDOM 2.0 WRIST HINGE AND ARM ROTATION

Was playing around with this feel today practicing (can you tell my competitive season is over? lol) and I noticed something. There’s basically one spot that it releases in both directions. After “getting out of the way” back, I noticed if let the lead hand release sooner (for me, I tend to hang onto it and release late at times), almost from the top of the backswing, I was puring the ball about 10-15 yards farther.

So get out of the way back, and then slash that bamboo shoot from the top. I filmed it and by feeling that I could still see the kinetic chain engage, and my arms were much more synced to my pivot. Valid feel for someone who tends to hang on and hit it with the face slightly open?

I also noticed that by doing this, the weight of the club balanced me in my swing. Good by slight early extension, hello a faster rotation with less effort.

Flukey one off? Or is that feeling of getting the back of the hand back to the ball and then back behind me sooner a good one for my miss?

always opened the face for buried lies and never realized why I would never hit them consistently.
Much needed video that I needed to see.
    Thanks.

    Hi Shawn,
I believe the following problem isn’t just mine, hope you can do a video on it.

Scenario:- Ball is lying near an over hang. I take a practice swing and I nip some leaves or a branch at top of my swing.
How much ever I try and reset and take a few shorter swing, on the actual shot I will either top it or duff it.
Usual reason is the swing is quick and forceful.

How does one overcome the subconscious of I may hit the leaves or branch?

    • From Shawn Clement on Troubleshooting

The mistake people make in these situations is that they try and hit as far as possible with the short backswing; that always leads to a shoving action and there is no way for the club to release with momentum when this occurs. Ask, how much momentum can I produce with this backswing? Then choose the target and the distance you feel you will easily get with that and THEN step into it and be a witness to that.

    Hi Shawn.
    Trying hard to levitate naturally.
When I go high or up i have a subconscious fear that I will dig in too deep.
What has helped is out of the way out of the way, my arms levitate easily. Also I have found stopping my swing when my arms hit 11 o clock, i have a slight pause and good things are happening.

Hey Shawn, I have been improving but 1 out of every 10 shots or so I hit a really nasty off the planet snap hook and it’s killing my rounds in terms of scoring. I tend to stall my lower body and my hands get super active in the downswing. I’m not sure why but i guess it could be a lack of focus or task but Is there any one swing thought I can try to snap hook proof my shots?

      Hey Frank!
REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT DEFECTIVE AND CANNOT POSSIBLY DO ANYTHING WRONG!!
1-when that shot happens: what was the last thing going on in your focus just before you swung?
RULE 1- NEVER RELEASE TOWARDS TROUBLE
RULE 2- NEVER PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION TO STRAIN

-How far were you trying to hit that drive that hooked?
-what was the effort level on a scale of 1-10?
-Did you stay with your task to the finish?
-were you trying to avoid trouble or were you CLEAR about where you wanted to drive the ball and were you comfortable with the choice of shot?

      Shawn

Thanks for the advice Shawn. I think i tend to snap hook when trying for more power/distance or when trying to avoid trouble on a narrow fairway. Will try to ensure there is no strain and focus on release to a sport in the middle of the fairway vs trying to steer it and see how it goes.

  • From [email protected] on PREPARE TO LET GO WITH IRONS

Hi Shawn. I’ve noticed at set up your irons/driver face is usually pointed to the left (when playing left handed) i.e. open. I have tried that at the range lately and have been hitting it a lot straighter/ small fades as opposed to big draws/hooks or just pushing it straight right (as a right hander). Is that pretty much standard for all clubs including driver? So slightly less open for a draw but more open for a fade? It just seems like a massive set up point and I have never heard you talk about it much. I think making that change is going to have a massive change on my game. Even for driver I was setting up like this and wasn’t slicing it like I thought I would. It feels much easier to rotate the clubface correctly through impact. Maybe a video on this would be good because I haven’t heard this talked about much by any golf coaches on youtube. Thanks for your videos. I’ll probably jump on the eagle sub over winter so I’ll ask you then anyways but its just been knawing at me lol.

Hey Fin! The problem is that everyone is so different; if the majority did what you think you see at address with me, they would slice off the planet because they don’t have a SEASONED RELEASE LIKE MINE. Because you are getting a better release, then you are able to back off on the club face.

THE KEY I REPEAT ALL THE TIME IN AS MANY COMMENTS I CAN RESPOND TO ON YOUTUBE IS that the club face closure has to match their ability to find the target; like in our “goldilocks series” and the “draw fine tuning” videos here on premium, when we look at the grip and club relationship, it all relates and hinges on the TASK TO TARGET THROUGH INTO THE DIRECTION we want to start the ball.

We simply don’t ever want to look at the STATIC RELATIONSHIP of the grip and club relationship at address as this changes dynamically so much depending on the golfer. Not your fault, golf instruction keeps looking at static positions and having us look in the wrong places…😝

Thank you for the great comment and feedback; we will keep plugging!!💪👌👍

Thanks for such a detailed and informative response. Yeah that makes sense. I am starting to release my hands a bit more through impact but when I start with the more closed clubface I start hooking it/trying to keep it open at impact. Will keep at it and seeing what works for me. Thanks again.

You need to confirm that you are getting that release well past the ball into the direction of flight! See “target confirmation series”

hi Shawn, quick question.. at top of backswing the lead arm and club form a “L” shape(90deg ish) on the downswing does it feel like that “L” turns more into a “V” (more like a 45 deg ish) as the arms are travelling down and through? i guess thats not exactly a quick question and i hope that it made sense lol

    Hi Shawn,

I have a quick question. Would it make sense to get behind the ball then take a newtral grip with a closed face to hit a draw?

I feel like when I grip it netral closed faced first then get behind the ball to square (strong grip stance) I leave it out right but when I get behind the ball first then take a neutral grip closed face the ball seems to draw alot better.

Let me know if that makes sense lol!

Shawn, finished my tournament. Played super, thanks to you, under pressure “task” oriented swing is what makes a difference.
For the driver – hit the tip of the tee to your direction
Fairway woods – IP close and sole of the club thru towards target
Bunkers – throwing sand ( with an early wrist hinge) made Sandy on all the 5 bunkers in the tournament.

My iron play let me down big time. I tried every task I could remember. In hind sight eyes between the ball and the club or ahead of the ball I did not do.

Problem was I just couldn’t get to the finish, If I did hit the iron on line I would dig so deep and then hold off the club or a punch.

I do feel I have a flaw in the setup, or
I do not commit to the setup or
my ball position , hips get tight, maybe too much from the inside. Or just trying to hit 100% distance with the club every time.

The best shots I did hit was when I made it a point to pause at the top, but also hit a few hooks which cost me the hole. So back to basics.

Am making a video and hopefully can do a one on one with you. Will include my setup process not just the shot.
    Happening in practice too.

Btw made the putt of the tournament to halve my match on the 18th in front of everyone.

Thank you so much for your guidance. Irons maybe off but this is the best golf I have ever played.

One of the best lessons Moe Norman got from Sam Snead at the 1956 Masters was to hit his long irons like his 4 wood. My earliest task that I taught was the “skipping of the sole of the club off the ground” with all clubs including the irons. Your fairway woods and bunker shots suggest this would be the case for you! 👍😀

      Hey Shawn,
3rd day today of trying the tasks and which is best for me.
Answer was almost ALL, in their own way.
The reason I could not get to the finish lay in my setup. Under pressure I tend to stand very upright, which results in my arms being blocked as well as my hips get stuck.

All that was required was me bending over, resulting in hips opening easily, arms hanging lose.

Gonna test it to its limit.
