It is a great video for keeping your self behind the shot.

Shawn you make the most sense on how to approach the golf swing! I notice when you finish your swing that your hands are almost on top of your head and sometimes even in front of your face, almost. Is this something that I should try to copy as well? Is this the result of a proper release and swing? I dont end up in that position but then again I dont hit the ball as well and constant as you, at least not yet.

This move you are seeing is MY WAY of dissipating the excess momentum after the release! Left handed, I slap my back with the club! Everyone has their own way of doing it; sounds like a video to me! 🙂
      Haha, stay tuned!! Shawn

Hey Shawn! Great series here. I am new to the game and absolutely love your approach! It is spot on! I am glad that I have not developed any habits that I were so committed to when I found you on Youtube. I have been watching many of your videos and I have a question about when you are hitting your fade shots. It appears that your left foot (when striking righty) is slightly open and a little behind your right foot. Is this correct or just a camera angle thing?

Please keep the “common sense”, simplistic golf approach coming.

Thanks for the quick reply. So for my own learning – you do the same on the draw – align your feet parallel to the line you want the ball to take – which is just to the right of your reference point. So what makes the ball fade or draw is actually the ball position (front of center for fade and just back of center for draw and the slightly more closed club face) and the direction you release your hands – just want to make sure this has sunk in 🙂

      Thanks again!

Close yes! All good except for alignment for draw; you line up with where you want the ball to end for draw; and when you play the ball back of centre, it will naturally move the ball to the right of where you wan the ball to end.

Definitely the camera angle; we are aligning ourselves “parallel to the direction we want to start the ball, which is left of target since we don’t want to start the ball on target and fade away from it, we want to start the ball left of target and fade the ball to it. Make sense?

Shaun the Brandelvideos are stopping in the middle of a number of them when I try to view them. Grip pressure and others. are other members having this problem ?

Hi Shawn, love your “trust your inner genius” approach to the game…however, I struggle with visualizing the draw when I have an open stance. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It just looks like your arm-club unit is too free; when the kinetic chain engages with the plant of the lead foot, the top of the arms re-connect to the top of the rib cage and the chain becomes taut; can you see this in my swing and in the link I sent you with Chad Campbell? This will give you a sense that you can compress the ball with the whole body; we will definitely do a video for this; stay tuned!

The method/tip for keeping the head behind is a good one. I have seen your video using 2 line on a 2 by 4

I have had many conversations with Brandel; he is still stuck on positions though; while we have graduated to tasks that bring out the positions without thinking! We will keep chipping away at him…👍😀

  • From Philip Graves on Driver Fine-Tuning - Part 2

It turns out that I haven’t been looking at the ball when I drive, nor have I been initiating the swing from the ground. Doing these two things gave me my best Skytrak session; 6 out 6 in bounds, avg 231 yards carry, 255 total and dispersion was -13 to + 15 yards (average 0). I suspect I have more power to gain from fine-tuning the sequence – but if I could deliver those numbers on the course I’d probably drop six shots because they’re longer and straighter than anything I’ve hit before.

Shawn, I’ve been struggling to find the right ball position with my 5 or 3 wood. I feel like I can usually get it right to create a draw or fade with my driver and my irons, but I haven’t got the right feel for the 5 or 3 wood. Any suggestions? John

Hi Shawn, I have been letting the “weight of the hammer” release me, as noted in your lessons on “trail hand release” and “lead hand release”. How does the active emphatic release taught in this video come in? Is this an alternate approach?

    • From Shawn Clement on Release Fine Tuning

      Not really; different approaches to the same release; some resonate better depending on the individual;

Hi Shawn, I am a new Eagel member from Norway (12 HCP). I struggling with fat shots special with long irons and woods. Is The battering ram exercise a god way to cure that issue? I also have tendency of early release. Lokking forward for your feed back and practice tips. Kind regards Egil

      Hi Egil!

Sorry I missed this one; it was day 1 in Florida last week and I just got back so thank you formyour patience!

With the longer clubs, check your distance to ball first; make sure that you are “pre-deployed” with your ball and string at address and feeling that the swing is already tracking from the shoulder sockets down.

Never focus on ball contact to face; always focus on sole of club shaving through grass towards the target with a nice whipping action! I would use battering ram for chipping-pitching and full swing short irons.

Shawn, I recently became an Eagle member a few days ago but have followed your videos and instruction on YouTube for some time. One of my major “hang-ups” is getting the squat and allowing my body to use gravity to get the club through to the target. Is this the catapult analogy you use in several videos or is there another “feel/drill” that I should be aware of?

      Thanks!

  • From Robert Zgorski on Kinetic Chain - Part 3

Shawn, when I watch the kinetic chain videos and listen to the instruction…”get the ground”, it seems that there is a lot of movement….body up/body down…seems I’d be hitting “chunk shots” all day. What am I missing?

    • From Shawn Clement on Kinetic Chain - Part 3

When you are focused on feeling a full release in the direction you want to start the ball, you should get this without thinking about it; it is to say that if you feel the up and down, don’t try to fix that; let it be! But don’t try to MAKE THE UP AND DOWN HAPPEN, it is up to the release to that target!

  • From Dale Ward on Chipping

We your feet apart, you seem to be setting up with your feet ca. 15-20° open to the target line. Correct? I assume this is to help clear the body out of the way.
At set up you have your wedge open to the target (I think you said 10°). What is your intermediate point? For a ‘draw’, I assume that it would be more right of target than the face. Correct?
What about chipping with stronger clubs, say a 7 iron. Still set up with the face open?
    Thanks.

    • From Shawn Clement on Chipping

Chipping is face slightly open; 7 iron is ok; but just slightly so that the leading edge does not catch; intermediate point is what you can find! :). Line up square and release to right of this alignement for the draw; Shawn
