Can you tell us more about online lessons? I have an awesome indoor practice facility and would love to work this winter on getting my handicap down and some game improvement.
Hi Shawn
At about 8:58 you mention/show the Swing Caddy. You mention that it is very accurate. I have one. I cannot get the release beyond 52-54 mph. And I feel a little strain as well at 54 mph. I also realise that my normal swing is much below 54 if the reading of Swing Caddy is accurate.
I plan to send some swing videos across. Club throwing, Swing Caddy and actual later this month. Lets see.:)
Best Wishes.
Hi Mohanjit!
Yes, but it could be that the weight of the instrument is a bit heavy for you; I like the heft because it “tracks” and loads the whippy short shaft on the unit nicely. The next step in the process is to perhaps strengthen the areas of your kinetic chain that are weaker because you are only as strong as the weakest link in your kinetic chain. In our next video analysis, let me see you in a swing from face on and down the line with the swing caddy at 52-54 setting.
Hi Doug, you bet!
With Andy here, we get together every 2 weeks which allows for some solid work in between, some good digesting, and then just before the next session he sends another couple videos and the questions he has for the next session and we go through it either in his office or on the range if the internet is good enough.
Rates are simply $59.95 on my “lessons” page of the main site at www.wisdomingolf.com which is the Equivalent of my half hour rate here at the club in US dollars.
It works very well and I want everyone to be able to afford it! Shawn
Hi Shawn. Quick question. For those of us hitting single length irons is there anything different we should incorporate as we move to our less lofted irons?
One length clubs here too. I love them. I love the fact that on every shot, the ball position, forward of center or back of center is only to match my feel of draw or fade. I never try to hit a straight shot even though my short irons are all pretty straight…my mindset is always on a draw or fade flavor. Happy to see more one length Wisdom in Golf folks.
That is the beauty of the single length; you have the consistency in the 4 major set up points of ball position, distance to ball, club face angle and levels. So the answer is no, enjoy the sameness! 😀👍
I love all my clubs. But it seems like even more of an accomplishment when you crush the 3 or 4 iron. I started making great contact when I took your instruction and started using the intention of swinging up to the sky. Gained height AND distance. Kudos.
p.s. I am jealous of your huge hip turn and I’m on the quest to get one of my own. That has to be the key for maximum power.
Homework done Shawn. Watched Anti-Manipulation and this one here. Looking forward to tonight’s practice session. Question about grip pressure….I know that this matters.
What would you say your grip pressure is out of 10? Does your grip pressure change depending on the shot or does it remain quite consistent?
I’ll let you know how it goes tonight. Thanks man.
This is massively helpful! As one who has fought a slice for several decades 🙂 and, following your instructional videos am finally hitting a draw much of the time, it seems this may explain why I feel like I’m set up square with the driver, yet still get anything from a fade to a hard slice, depending on the club face at impact. Would you think that could be the cause (that is, I need to be sure the face is closed enough, plus close my stance a bit more)?
As to the clubface, is there a rule of thumb for how closed it should be to hit a draw? I use a strong grip (at least 3 knuckles showing, and sometimes 4 – much like your recent YouTube videos with Savy).
You bet! If you see the other comments, you can see how much this video is helping others with the same issue as you; I was watching a couple guys on the asian tour and one Korean player had a 3-4 knuckle grip and a closed face! There is another action needed though; and this is the release feel that also needs to be polished so see “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” and release fine tuning;
Shawn
Please explain what you did differently that made the draw pitch grabby versus soft. I can’t seem to pull off the low spinning, quick-stopping short approach shot. How do you increase velocity to achieve the extra spin without hitting shot too far?
Because we are playing the ball farther back in the stance, and closing the face, we trap the ball better and when you compare this to the higher pitch (with a lob wedge) which feels a bit glancey, it will feel and be spinier because there is more compression. Goldie locks will get you the distance with both types of shot.

Hi Shawn: great video. Watching your swing in slow motion is impressive. I’ve tried being deliberate about hesitating at the top but it gives me the sense of being out of balance. Did you say that you were going to be doing a session on incorporating this into our swing? Any quick ideas?
That pause is something you want to get without thinking; see “anti manipulation” video in premium and the throwing series; you will see what I mean!
Shawn
Shawn are seniors badly served by using light weight clubs. From what I can see in your swing, a heavier club may engender more feel. Light may not be right. Your thoughts. I loved this video–nothing about wrist cock–just let the weight of the club set the wrists and throw the club down the fairway. As Knudson said “give up control to gain control”
Man, I did see this comment and marked it for reply, thank you for the reminder!
Goldie Locks is your best ally when it comes to this and a nice little fitting session at a place like Club Champion goes a long way! They have all the top heads and shafts with no restrictions so you can get in there and really feel the right combination for yourself; and tell them I sent you!
See the latest video I did with Savy that I posted today; this will make a huge difference in her game!
Really important to have slow motion portions in 2 views in your videos and closeups when applicable. Also includes Savannah videos while you explain. Thanks
IM really into the feel of the club in my practice swings. But when it time to bend over and chip the ball for real on an uneven slope or any slope for that matter it all goes out the door. Even one step more this aberration can happen to all my golf swings. From driver to the pitching wedge. Help!
Ok, let’s start with the chip; what is the focus just before you swing when the ball is there, what does your mind see and what feel are you looking to use to perform the task?
Ok, now we have the culprit! The first thing you want to do is solidify the task; the sight-sound-feel of a well cut dandelion stem! Please see the first couple sessions of the beginner series I just put out on premium; it is so vital that you get fully versed with a simple task that will take care of all of the items you listed in one simple easy task. The science behind this paragraph is staggering and runs so deep-all to come back to the simplest of simple experiences.
Enjoy and dig in hard! 😀👍💪🤛
Great video! How much tension is in each arm? You look totally relaxed. If you have mentioned it before I apologize for not catching it. Maybe a little more in the lead arm and hand? Thanks again for all your hard work and videos. Mike H.
