    Great video Shawn. Wisdom in Golf is the correct path to better golf. I’ve hit some of the most incredible shots this year including some of the longest drives I’ve hit in 25 years (I’m 49), but I still have some bouts of inconsistency.

    As a left handed golfer my best shots are a medium trajectory draw. It seems that when I get off my misses are a high left shot, which I despise. It seems like when I’m hitting these it’s a glancing weak blow.

    Is there a better task or visualization I need to get rid of this weak high left shot? Is throwing the club low a good drill to work on getting rid of the weak high left shot?

      Usually when I hit the high left shot I’m setting up for a draw and thinking about swinging to the left of my intermediate point? In my mind I feel like I’m going thru the same routine with the same thoughts and intentions.

      Obviously something is different occasionally. I could hit a bomb 300+ with a tight little lower draw or the high weak left shot goes 250 or so. There’s always a huge difference in yardage and compression.

      Ok, when you set up for the draw, are you looking for that nice feel of release or are you placing or steering the club to the left of the IP? Have a look at the “pre-motor cortex series” and “target confirmation series” and the “turbo charged lead hand and trail hand release” videos; it could very well be that your grip-club relationship is still too open as well!

    Hi Shawn,

    How engaged do your biceps feel in the down swing? What about the forearms? I’m finally getting consistent with the perpetual motion drill as long as I let my biceps feel like they’re falling and not engaging much. It still seems counter intuitive that I can generate more transferable power by finding the ground and letting gravity do its thing… thanks for all of your amazing videos!

      Sorry i missed this one! You Definitely do not want to pay any attention to any particular muscle groups during the swing as this would short circuit your task in the long run. You will get little glimpses of awareness during each swing and that is ok for you to simply enjoy and let roll off your back; then find the ball, create another flight plan, find the IP, and deliver the action through the arc-blur through the IP and into the beginning of the flight plan with a nice sling that is easy to produce.

    I just wanted to comment. I have (unknowingly) not understood the importance of the thumb on the lead hand until watching this video. I have stumbled upon a great feeling of leverage in the past (and then lost it)(and then found it)(and then lost it) and have not been able to identify why. When you moved your thumb off to the side of the shaft in your back swing and explained why that caused power loss, it clicked for me. As soon as the video finished, I threw my clubs in the truck and off to the range I went where I confirmed for the first time the answer to a mystery that has had me stumped for a long time. That “toe up” address position was only obtainable in the past (for me) by lowering my hands excessively and would cause an awkward swing that just didn’t work. Watching videos of my swing, I could see the club bowing down as you describe here, and I could see my club toe deep at impact. This has always been a catch 22 between the club feeling comfortable at address and trying to get lie angle correct at impact! This lead hand thumb position (umbrella grip) is the answer and is so simple that I’m mad at myself for not being able to figure it out on my own. Thanks Shawn!

    I know you must be very busy Shawn however i sent a comment 5 days ago regarding a very important lever wrist hinge and when I add wrist hinge I can’t hit the ball with any predicted target?? The shot goes right and more so with driver.
    I could really use the added power

    This video is pure gold! The tip about Moe “throwing his head backward” and yet, not moving it was a real eye-opener for me. I’ve struggled with making good contact because of head movement (forward movement – I’m not worried about a little up-and-down), so today I tried it. The course had closed the range for COVID, so I couldn’t hit any balls before we started, but I did some perpetual motion drills and BAM! Most of my tee shots were down the middle, and I was striking the ball better all the way through the course.

    I could tell that consciously keeping my head behind the ball was keeping me from looking up and was getting me to release more effectively, which helped keep the balls nearer the target line.

    I still feel as if I could get more distance if I could keep my focus out in the picture instead of on the ball, but it is coming along. I’m 67, and am finally seeing some real improvement!

    Love this video for bringing it all together. I still struggle with activating the legs like you do in the swing. However, watching your videos again have gotten me back on track. I’m now doing a bit of a forward press before I swing and this has definitely helped me to activate my kinetic chain. My strikes have been more pure with much less dispersion. Banged out about 20 7-iron shots last night to a target about 170yds out. Had very few big misses. The trajectory was much more piercing as well rather than it ballooning too high which sometimes happens with my swing. Would like to better understand the legs in the swing though and how you apply such force with the legs through impact. Any thoughts? By the way, nice Lululemon pants! I’ve got myself about 5 pairs of those. Most comfortable pants on the planet!! Talk soon Shawn.

      I think I’ve worn every brand of polo, over the years and will now only wear Tasc. It’s a bamboo fabric; stretches well in the swing, very comfortable on the skin, and they stand up well to many machine washings. Fyi – they seem to run a bit on the large side.

      For the legwork, use a 4 pound hammer and do what Mu and I are doing in the latest youtube video and in the premium’s “pumping up the swing” video. And Yes, awesome pants! Was trying the ones from Linksoul and nothing comes close to the lulu. The Linksoul shirts and tee shirts are great and Mu and I love the fit of their hats too.

    Another great video. What stood out today, for me, was your demonstration to Mu on using the legs vs manipulation of the arms in the swing. The manipulation of the arms really changed the position of the arc. Seeing the visual really made sense to me. Thank you. Pat Baker

      The arm swing tends to move naturally parallel to the alignment of the ball socket system; if you need extra range of motion in the backswing, the diagonal stance is a great way to go but it requires an understanding of the accompanied ball position. So if your range of motion is good but struggle with alignment, then stick to parallel.

    I shot 80 for the 5th time in a row.Very frustrating. I have watched all of your videos, understand all of the concepts, and can hit most all of the shots. I pick a flight plan and have an intermediate target and then proceed to initiate my swing and at least 50% of the time in a split second I revert back to “make sure” or the ball or some other thought that sabotages the task at hand. I feel my problem at this point is much more mental (not defective as you would say) than any swing weakness. How can I mentally get past this and increase the percentage of times I stay with my task.Thankyou.

      Right on Joe! This is awesome! You are getting very close as this awareness kicks in!
      have you kept your stats as to how many shots you have stayed with all the way during your round? Out of 36 swings, how many can you say you stayed with?
      start here; then realize what is preventing you from staying with the shot can be course management and giving yourself time to GET CLEAR about each shot before you execute. I was at 22 out of 36 for over a year until I had my breakthrough in Australia with 15 out of 18 shots stayed with on 9 holes at 4 under!

    One more big question Shawn or maybe it’s more dispelling a myth. When you use your legs you are definitely dipping and lowering into the ground. If I over exaggerate this move, I will chunk it. As I try to lower the boom so to speak, I catch it fat. Can you clearly explain how you are able to hit it so purely with the legs even though there is a noticeable downward drop of the legs and waist into impact?

      Hey Andy! I get this question often! 😝
      You cannot focus on the legs themselves during the swing; that would definitely sabotage the results as you are no longer on target!! Releasing at the ball is fat city and causes a nice early extension too! But releasing THROUGH THE BALL and out at the target changes where the body loads the ground and where it extends back up!
      See “the walking drill” and do this drill and film yourself doing it. You will see my head bobbing up and down and then also see the grass being cut nicely on every step in backswing and follow through. Toss some hammers, then toss some hammers with long chip swing and then throw some clubs and then throw some clubs with a prediction!!

    My main issue is always firing with the arms, so this is helpful. Now main swing is…. use the leg with a quiet ACU. It seems that my brain wants to equate club head speed and power with swinging the arms. Not so. The power is in the lower body, right?

    Another very helpful video, as others have mentioned, especially the demonstration of arms-only vs using legs. And this raises another question, to help with the over-use of arms to gain power (that is, trying to “swing hard”).

    Am I thinking correctly with this: If we use the analogy of the ball on a string, when you use your legs to power it, the ball will rotate freely without any real arm movement. If we want it to go faster, you can move your legs more. But if you try to swing your arms faster, they get a bit ahead of the ball, so either cause it to lose speed, or get off line. Attempting to translate that to the golf swing, too much push with the arms is like using the arms too much with the ball on a string, and loses effectiveness, while using legs actually increases power with less effort.

    Or am I over-thinking it?
