Shawn, your new video angles are awesome. Nice to see the ball direction after you strike the ball. The drone shots are great also.

    Thanks Charlie

Shawn, nice video. I am with Kmax05 and Ricardpeyser. I would like to see you address this’s subject explicitly with driver.

Got it; I can see why now! Will be glad to oblige! We have a one leg drill coming up next and then a one leg drill back to 2 feet where we will do it with driver in both of them!

This is a great video Shawn, very helpful. This is a piece of the puzzle I was struggling with, I have been hitting hooks and pushes. So the shorter irons (9i etc) are more closed that longer irons and driver or all similar?

    • From Shawn Clement on SQUARE UP THE CLUB FACE

Hey Vince! They can vary depending on the manufacturer; sometimes woods more closed and sometimes not. Irons are all the same but when you need an extra boost, the shorter irons can be closed a bit more; think Bubba Watson at the 2012 Masters!
Your pushes and hooks are alerting me to a backswing or a downswing that is too much from the inside though so check out “match backswing to target” video.

Another great video Shawn. This all makes complete sense. As I attempt to change my long ingrained swing to release to the target, rather than to the ball, I believe I struggle with the consistency of the “timing” of my release. Muscle memory will revert my release to go early in the swing, then my closed face pulls the ball left. Do you see this with your students? To improve consistency in release, do I continue to practice the “release”, “throw to target” and “task” drills, or do you have other recommendations?

Good stuff! This is where “pre motor cortex series” and “target confirmation series” come in and really practice “goldie locks series” with your set up to develop an iron clad “predict contact” before you deliver! If you cannot predict contact or direction before you deliver your release, then you will default to the ball way more often than not.

Hi, is our target “cut the grass, tee, dandelion” or the target is where we want the ball to go to. For example, the 150 yard marker in the fairway? I see in multiple of your videos mentioned just focus on one thing. Now if I have to think about cut grass, and set the ball out to field, isn’t going to confuse the brain? Thanks

    • From Shawn Clement on SENIOR SERIES PART 3- RELEASE AND SNAP

Great question, and you will see we answer this in a few videos too; you start with an END TARGET and then you choose a FLIGHT PLAN to get to that target. Then you choose an INTERMEDIATE POINT to help you line up AND DELIVER your task in the direction you want to start the ball. Once you have made your PREDICTION that the ball position, the distance to ball, the clubface angle and the posture levels are matching the shot, then you only have one thing left to do: LET MOMENTUM SWING THROUGH IN THE DIRECTION OF THE INTERMEDIATE POINT AND OUT WHERE YOU WANT TO START THE BALL. Your set up already matched the end target and your prediction already took care of ball contact and how it was to fly in the air.
See: “throw the club” and “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series”

Followed you for around 6 years finally got wisdom premium

had a break from golf for two years and getting the bug again …

I am staying with the task have the correct grip and club face closure I think.. I’m trying to hit draw staying right of intermediate point .

Shawn I am hitting a few shots straight right with this technique…am I leaving the face open ? Thoughts ?

      Couple of important things:
1-is the grip club strong enough
2-is the release happening to full potential
3-is the centre of the swing staying in place

      acid test 1-
see “draw fine tuning” and see how much closed you need to be in the grip-clubface to get the ball to curve to the left
      acid test 2-
when you hit shots feet together, is the result the same?
      Important feel to acquire:
see “lead hand release” “trail hand release” “release fine tuning” release polish”
Let me know how you progress!

      Progress update !..

Just left the range and after watching your recommendation videos …

This was spot on shawn! I was not releasing and was not staying centered.

I was trying diagonal driver also and there is definitely some magic there!
Was hitting some flush bombs! 💣

I will keep you updated as I go further down the rabbit hole 🐇

Thanks again Shawn for all that you do.

Man Shawn I can’t wait to get the range and just work on this. This is the video that answered my question of how how to come to find my goldie locks grip to square my face at impact. This has been the most fun summer at the range ever!

    Hi Shawn,

Do you see any set up problems with a grip that uses a reverse overlap (i.e., I’m a right handed golfer and it feels more comfortable to have my left hand index finger on top, in the groove between my right hand pinky and ring fingers)?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

  • From [email protected] on Braced Tilt

Shaun, I don’t understand your comments on the pre-turn. Are you advocating doing a pre-turn and braced tilt for a draw. In the beginning of the video you also state we should be moving away from a pre-turn, but at the end you seem to say that it is done in conjunction with a braced tilt for a draw. can you clarify this?

See the “hammer drill” video and the “kinetic chain series” which will explain this further for you; the purpose is to have full access to your target with your action!

Great video, very good demos. I do get a little confused on having a strong grip and body lean angle. They must go together, correct? My local golf pro never corrects my grip so I am assuming it must be okay. However, since I’m such a new golfer I’m not sure if I’m getting t he most out of it. It’s crazy that folks criticize Savi’s grip, I do everything I can to emulate her swing except hit lefty. Thanks again for another great video.

Yes, this means you are fighting the club and trying to place it! Play some table tennis and hit some top spin back hands; the move is the same with the left arm and hand.

I think this is another timely video…access to that front foot is key to what I’m working on. At 12:30 mark you made an adjustment in the knee and shoulder as part of getting behind the ball. Why did you do that? Was it to get the weight on the inside front foot? You also asked if it was forcing him to the left. Was that part of being in a draw setup? Keep up the good work and it is really helpful seeing you work through adjustments with your co-stars!
