I’ve been training my walking drill last saturday. Results are encouraging! All of my drive where on the fairway. contacts are much better and some of my shots where really great :). I can really see the swing arc with this drill and it’s changing completely the way I swing. Things difficult I have also observed during the game : I top the ball to much with my irons, my drive are not very powerfull (220 yards= 200m total). When i drive, the ball tend to go a bit high wich may cause loss of distance, I think my ball takes backspin that doesn’t help to get more distance.
In addition I felt that i was hitting my balls using more the first pendulum and a second pendulum that was incomplete.
Question: As the swing is in both way with this walking drill that is a perpetual motion, do you have in your mind to take two targets and two trajectories in both way and to switch your visualization durung the motion?
Not 2 targets; but 2 FULL RELEASES IN EACH DIRECTION THROUGH THE GRASS would be good for you; when you do the kinetic chain engagement drill of sending grass divots to target, it is because the PMD is already good. If the PMD needs work, then you simply practice releasing through the grass and walking and cutting your rows of grass in each direction to feel that release like in the “snap release polish” video
Even though I have seen you, Sav, and Mu swing the kettlebell before, this video really sparked an “aha” moment about how the body moves in the golf swing! I am trying to get this kettlebell swing feeling when I swing a golf club. What I have noticed on video is that I tend to restrict my turn on my actual swing vs. my practice swing. Even with the grass whip my turn changed when I went from the perpetual motion drill to cutting the bottom of a tee. I may be rushing and not letting the backswing finish. When I consciously try to complete the backswing (with mixed results), I feel like my focus is then taken away from the target (in the opposite direction) and task and my swing suffers. How can I gain consistency and length with my turn?

Hi Jimmy! We just heard through Foresight sports that they are coming out with a GC3 that will be below 10K here in Canada; but better yet, they will be doing a collaboration with Bushnell for a monthly subscription based deal this fall! You may want to hang on a bit longer! 😀👍
What is the best task for club release…I have a great release but way too early…my chest stops rotating and my hands and forearms complete the swing. I am the best hooker and can draw the ball but have never hit a fade ! What is my task? HDCP 12
When I throw the club out in front of me it is ALWAYS 15 yards to the left! Help !!
Hi Maureen! Did you see my latest “Shawn’s Favourite drill”? The throwing of the club is really the best, but it must have a solid intermediate point to stay to the right side of.
Ok just went the range and tried this drill because yesterday I struggled big time with my driver and three wood on the course. Over the top swing not focusing on the swoosh but didn’t realize I focusing on the wrong target. Got amazing results. I had to two people come up to me at the range and tell me how good my drives were and that I was hitting it so consistent! Thanks for also discussing the mental side of the swing and game. I tend to get to careful rather then just letting it go!
Lovin’ the lessons Shawn! Already seen some improvement and had a buddy video my swing but seems the file is too big to send so I guess I will wait until my wife gets back from the Philippines next month…she’s the techy one. Strengthened the grip and enjoying the trigger finger supporting the club better now at the top, which seems to add power and more whip that I never had before. So just finished the senior series. I have always heard that ball placement should be roughly off the logo of my shirt. It appears you are playing, say, the 7 or 6 iron more in the center of your stance- halfway between the heels. Am I seeing that right? Also if you want to hit it higher, don’t you have to move the ball forward?
Yes, and it depends on the flight you are looking at delivering into. You can easily play a 4 iron back of centre; high draw with 4 iron would be max just forward of centre. Use the “goldie locks” series and apply the 4 major building blocks of set-up to the flight plan you want to deliver into. Great practice for the back yard!
Also, Shawn. When you talk about a string group, I think of taking the left hand (I’m right-handed) and turning it more to the right. But it looks like you’re sometimes taking a neutral grip, opening the hands, turning the club closed, and the gripping. Is there any difference in these 2 methods?

Hi Paul! Haha, you just described the same thing! 😀👍 just from a different perspective. That is why we call it a GRIP-CLUB RELATIONSHIP. You can close and then grip, you can take a stronger grip of a bit of both!
That would mean your club face is too open and you need to swing to the left to find the target; see “draw fine tuning” and the first couple of videos in the “consistency series”
Hey Shawn, it wasn’t this video but I recently watched video where you had tape on top of driver to help you see the arc blur. Did I dream that?! Also, is that legal to keep on during a round, or is it just for practice? I have read various internet opinions RE Tape vs painted on. It really helps me see my blur path/arc. Thanks, Brian
It appears that here you are advocating a neutral grip yet in you tube videos you state that the vast majority of us should be using a very strong grip. Please explain.
Hi George; it is the FORMATION of the hands on the club that we start with and once we have the secure, airtight and vacuum sealed grip, we use the “grip club relationship” in the “goldie locks series” videos to find the right combination that will allow the ball to fly the way you need it to fly.
This may seem like a stupid question. I have had success using unstoppable momentum (heft) Axe drill, Battering ram,WIG basic “Get out of the way, Get out of the way”. Also the backswing series golf lesson video with the Doctor. That series takes me deeper and my downswing just happens on it’s own(which is awesome!). Then I see your other videos about adding speed and distance. Videos that say to use your legs and snapping the release. When I try to add those things my swing suffers. Then I get frustrated and try other things, which takes me off in another direction and I get worse. So, with that said. Should I stay on the “momentum” training and forget the other distance adding techniques? The golf swing variables and techniques can be confusing. I’m just trying to reach my potential and improve every day.
You are on the right track at the beginning of the comment; stay with that and the leg work will come later all by itself. The video is especially there for you to understand it and simply NOT TRY to keep the legs still or on the same level which would stunt your long term development. If you think about the “how to use the legs”, you will STRUGGLE! Think about the task of allowing the unstoppable momentum to ride through the arc-blur and out into the direction you want the ball to start.
