Shawn,
I have to say your method of teaching and general golf philosophy are incredible. I committed to your instructional videos completely and cannot believe the difference it has made. Having now shot multiple rounds in the 70’s after making a major swing change following a long a golf hiatus due to COVID is just unreal. I feel like I am truly playing golf for the first time (and it feels so easy, intuitive, and athletic) so thank you for doing what you do. I recently watched a video where you discuss the “release” on the target side of the ball and focusing on the rehinge that occurs at the end of the follow through and how this is a great swing thought to ensure we don’t revert back to “hitting” the ball. It was a great video but now I can’t seem to find it again. Might have been target confirmation series, or arc blur, or a release video? You have so much great content that its sometimes hard to recall where these little nuggets are kept. I will be sure to make it a favorite video if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks again.

Just found it again–Target Focus Confirmation Series Part-1. Thanks again Shawn–such great content!
Exactly! ๐๐
Thanks Shawn!
My swing low point is always where my eyes are looking. How do I get my brain to get around that? If I’m not looking at the low point then my brain doesn’t know where it will be on the down swing
EX: On my drive, if I setup like you (driver “far” behind the ball), I need to look at where the driver is before starting the swing and use the ball/tee as intermediate point to hit a descent drive. If I look at the tee, my bain will bring my arm/club unit to the tee on the down swing (brain loosing low point and ground reference) and all bets are off.
With my irons, my divots (if any) are always under the ball or a tad before. Never after the ball but I still hit 170yds carry with my 7 iron that plugs and stop dead on the green.
I believe that’s the reason why I can’t hit fades and that all my shots have a draw tendency.
Very good feedback! First time I hear it this way and it makes a lot of sense! With Driver, I have had some players look at the centre of the stance in anticipation of the low point; together with the prediction process, there is no reason why you could not do this! Same for iron shots; looking at a spot an inch in front of the ball and predicting if the low point is there during the swing, that the ball will get compressed in the direction you are letting the momentum go. Fantastic feedback man!!๐๐ช๐ค๐
Thank you Shawn for the quick reply. I will try looking a bit in front of the ball next time Iโm at the range to see if it will work.
Hi Shawn. Hereโs some feedback after going to the range and playing a round. What I described above about the driver is definitely the way to go for me. I can really feel and predict impact and direction before initiating the back swing.
For the irons, blindly looking at the top or back of the ball works for me. That way Iโm able to focus on compressing the ball in the proper direction on my way through.
My biggest issue is that Iโm unable to bring that relax state and focus that I have at the range to the golf course. My brain just donโt what to let go.
The key for the golf course is to confirm the prediction process before you allow the swing to compress through that ball; if you feel that when you let the weight of the arms and club compress through the ball in the direction you want it to go, that the ball will start on that line and curve in the air the way you pictured it. Then it is possible to let the swing do its thing!
Thanks for the reminder, that’s the bit that was missing. My last golf game went a lot better.
In your latest chip video, you said to Sav to make her chip movement a bit more to the outside like a fade swing in order to cut through the stem. Does it mean that you should feel like your swing path is a bit from Outside to In when doing a fade in order to brush the ball? I’ve been struggling a lot with fades and I was under the impression that the swing was the same and only the face angle and ball position alone will make the ball fade or draw.
The backswing needs to match the direction you want to start the ball; for someone who has a tendency to take the club too inside in the backswing, the proper takeaway that would match, even for a draw would โfeelโ outside but would be far from โbeingโ outside.
Got it. Thanks
Thanks, Shawn! New subscriber and really kicking myself for not finding you sooner.
I’ve spent years fighting my tendency to pull the club inside on the way back after being told “you need to take it back straight”. Now I’m releasing the club through impact like never before but I have a lot of left misses – draws that start straight and end up left of target, rather than starting right of target.
Alignment? Picking a better intermediate point as my target? You’ve got so much great material that any specific videos to look at is appreciated!
You want to practice the fade to to balance things out and have fun also starting your draw shots way more out to the right. Bottom line after that, you make a prediction at address (see โpredict contactโ and the โgoldielocks seriesโ) and stay with the direction of the arc-blur through the intermediate point all the way into the release (see target confirmation series) and see how the ball flies. If you get the pattern you just described, your club face is simply a bit too closed. But you need confirmation that you DELIVERED THROUGH ALL THE WAY FIRST.
Relatively new to Premium and have a question relating to hitting draws with the driver. When hitting irons I understand the need to close the face to gather the ball dynamically, but does the face need to be closed to draw the driver?
Some woods are more draw biased and you wonโt need to close as much and some need to be closed more! The key is to deliver the action in the direction you want to start the ball and see how the ball flies! That is the dynamic way to do it; then according to your club and your swing, you get your recipe for success!
If your intermediate point is lined up with the white building, are you throwing the club at any specific target right of that? See 4.45 onwards
Just to the right edge of the IP; thatโs all! But you must trust it so this is why the blur of the club is so important to see and know where it will pass!
Thanks for confirming ๐
