Hey Shawn hope your well. I have just recently started back playing golf after a good few years out. I have joined back up to the premium channel . I somehow always end up coming back to your teaching. I am going to find somewhere to have a go at this divot drill. When i’m playing i never take divot’s always pick the ball off clean. I am sure this is robbing me of compression and distance. One question i do have. I came to see you some years back on your road trip to the UK at the Forest of Arden course. You spoke about possibly finding someone to take up your coaching system here in the UK . Did you ever go forward with it?

Shawn Clement

Hey Paul! This is such a great drill! See also “task update” and “shawn’s favourite drill” which are recent developments. Are you looking for a teacher or are you looking to teach?

paul.mcintyre@hotmail.co.uk

Looking for a teacher i find i learn quicker if i have someone to keep an eye on me. I tend to get too analytical and loose focus on the task. Mind you who knows maybe getting into teaching could be good.

You recommended this drill to me on my last analysis. Had a tough time with it to start some fat divots then next one thin. I was just sending divots out into the trees somewhere. I found that I had to pick a specific tree as a target and send out the divot to it. Much better feel of throwing to the target, thanks for the drill.

I recently got a GC Quad and it shows that I am hitting up on my irons when I hit a thin shot. If I look at my stance the ball is about 1.5″ in front of the center of my stance (a ball diameter).

I listened to a club fitter and reduced the strength of my grip and my hands got further back to make the shaft more vertical. This created bad ball contact.

I have put some Wisdom back In my Golf and strengthened the grip with great success. The question is, should the ball be at the center of my stance for irons? The iron I have in the image is a 6 iron.

I played last night and hit some great irons shots with the hands further forward.

I need to find a grass driving range. Unfortunately, in the Netherlands, they are as rare as gold… Mats are nice, but too much of it and you start having golf elbow.

butrybm@yahoo.com

Amen. Dealing with that dreaded elbow issue already this season for that exact reason.

Yeah same here also from the Netherlands, there are some DR’s which have grass to hit off from but in general mats only. And it is an entirely different game playing from the grass stuff….
