Hi Shawn! Joined a few months ago and love all the great wisdom and content. I would love to see a series (if you don’t have one) on “how to practice.” I spend a decent amount of practice time indoors with a launch monitor with ball and club data. I find myself trying to perfect my swing and ball striking with a given club and an hour later I have hit a ton of balls and don’t feel like I am improving much – maybe even reinforcing bad habits. I am specifically curious about starting with partial and/or slow swings and slowing building up to a full swing in a session or while practicing a specific skill. Any suggestions for building a solid practice plan?

Shawn Clement

Hey Kyle! Yes!
we have 3 series for this called “off season training series”; the original at the bottom of the list of videos by date and the 2020-2021 we did last fall-winter and add to that the “consistency series” and you will have a solid evolution of prioritized practice!😀👍💪👌

Hi Shawn,

I discovered your YouTube channel a few months ago and joined Wisdom in Golf a few weeks ago. I’ve been exploring the various lessons on the site and absolutely loved this lesson and the ‘battering ram’ lesson. Hit the irons very well in practice. My question is: is the process the same for the Driver. When I practiced with the driver, the contact was solid, but the direction was either straight or slightly blocked to the right. Is the technique different for the Driver? Thanks in advance,

Shawn Clement

Hi Keith! The kinetic chain is very much the same but on a different plane; see “the throwing series” where we throw items of different lengths to correspond to the different shots you will face while playing a game of golf. Also, the grip-club relationship is a bit different with the woods and driver depending on the equipment you have; some may need to close the face more with the driver and some may need to close less; sounds like you are in the more category. See also “driver nugget” and the “diagonal stance series” which has helped many when trying to draw the driver.

Above you mention most people do not look at blur and for right handed golfers are swinging practice swings to right. I do not routinely look at direction of practice swing but at address I line up well to intermediate point , do a practice to takeaway position than execute the task shot. ( throw club over intermediate point to target.) , question will my practice swing going to right affect my proper execution of the shot making it go right. I find my shots alot of time pushes to right more than I am aiming.. so I just aim more left.

Shawn Clement

Hey Barry! This is important! Means your grip and club face is not closed enough; and or the release of the swing is sputtering. See part 4 or the how to repeat the practice swing and in the middle of the video, we talk about a pitch shot that we are letting swing to target. If you feel the need to manipulate the club closed to not miss to the right, your grip and club face is too open for sure. See also “the goldie locks series” for the grip and club face video of that series of 4 and see the “draw fine tuning” video.

if that still does not work, then it is the release of the swing so search the word “release” in the search box and watch all those release videos; every last one!😀👍

Hi Shawn – thanks for the great content. This question doesn’t really pertain to this video and it’s regarding ball flight. I was at the range yesterday and 3 college age kids were hitting the ball like I’ve never seen before. Their ball flight had piercing elevation on all clubs and shot out with unreal distance. Even the sound was different. Their swings looked very compact. My ball flight and most golfers I’ve seen (other than the Pros) aren’t hitting it like this and the ball comes out good but seems to “float” and not have that piercing effect if you know what I mean. What are these guys doing differently? – thanks.

Could you direct me to or create a video on a daily practice routine to help create a consistent swing? I currently start with the battering ram, the the lead and trail arm throw, two arm throw, basketball and volleyball drills. Then move on to net and practice ball flight, intermediate throw w/o letting go followed by range balls. I’m making good progress but feel it could be accelerated with a proper routine. Thank you
