Shawn! Went to the range today and really focused on task, intermediate target, and momentum. It has clicked! Truly thankful for your teaching. It makes so much sense. And… it is so nice not focusing on body positions, swing thoughts…etc. Thank you Shawn!
Excellent series. Doctor Moody’s excitement and glee I think in the 4th part on hitting a good shot felt exactly what I go through.
Also the levitation what the Doc talks about resonated with the lesson you gave me.
The extra time at top is what I am trying to get the feel of.
I swing my driver at 107 MPH, but i carry around 255-260 Yards. I need to gain another 20 yards. Have flat lined at max 260Y.
I found the Recoil F1 and F2 suit me ( which are ladies and senior flex) and am able to hit a great flight and dead straight with these.
That always has to do with transition; I don’t remember exactly where that video is but a good guess is “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” which would be a great video for you!
This is where you will need the help of a good launch monitor that can get you spin details; we need to get your spin down as I suspect your spinning the ball in excess of 3000 RPM;
“Unstoppable momentum” series and “momentum already there before you start your swing series” is where you want to go next
Hi Shawn. Ive been a follower of your channel and videos for past year. My game has improved immensely. Ive been consistently been hitting draws both with my driver and irons. My problem now is my fairway woods and hybrid and making it draw. My setup is neutral grip with face closed to almost 75 degrees for both irons and driver then hitting right of the intermediate point. When I do this with the fairway woods and hybrid I get a low short or ground roll but somewhat draw straight flight. When i open the face a bit around 45 degrees I get better ball contact and higher ball flight but problem is the ball flight turns to a fade, push slice.
Yes you bet! This means your centre is moving and affecting how your release is anchored; see
-alignment reload
-blur of club
-arc blur unstoppable momentum series
-important release update
-tilt mile markers
-contact mile markers
-bolted and centred
-momentum already there before your start your swing series
Hi Shawn, it is amazing how some of your basic teachings I have seen from other coaches. I have seen a bunch of coaches now talking about low point. And just yesterday I saw someone talking about throwing the club. and today on YouTube a video of Ben Hogan talking about the golf swing is throwing the club!!!! So once again thanks for your being ahead of the curve in your teachings.
Bonjour Shawn,
Greetings! Really enjoying your holistic teaching approach! It appears in the video that as you shift from hitting high shots to lower shots with the driver you are also moving the club head closer to the ball at address for the lower trajectory shot or is that just an optical illusion?
Hi Victor! You are correct! See the “list of videos by date” and go to the bottom and see the “driver” video; knowing where the bottom of the swing arc is located is essential to solid ball striking with the driver and Moe Norman was the absolute ultimate master at it. When the ball is low on the tee as in the “driver for accuracy” video, we are catching the ball as the driver is tracking the bottom of the arc. When the ball is higher, then we need to play the ball more forward to catch on the way up; for fades, this is less of an issue, but for high draws we need to get “diagonal in the stance” as in the “important driver nugget” video. Enjoy!
Hi Shawn! The lessons, starting at Wisdom 2.0, have been incredible. I’ve been following now for 12 years or so and have never moved off of your teachings. Top notch! You’re understanding of the golf swing is amazing.
Anyway this video using the “feet together” and the PMD were excellent. I used the lesson to tune up my sand game this afternoon and what a difference. Cleaned up where I was off track.
Thanks
I have watched your first three off season lessons over and over. I am one of your dedicated followers who struggles with the tilt. But I intend to get serious about how you close the club face and get behind the ball. My observations – one – it looks like your hands are ahead of the ball with the wedge but end up almost even or behind the ball by the time you use the driver. Two – it looks like you stay within the cylinder of the revolving door by allowing the trail leg to straighten on the backswing and allowing the lead leg to straighten on the downswing/finish. This seems to keep you centered. Am I interpreting these observations correctly?
Yes! All your observations are spot on! However the way to get there consistently without thinking about it is through the understanding of the functionality of the “position”. Wedge ball position is back of centre and Driver is well forward of centre; but the set up disregarding the ball looks quite similar. And when you see the “feet together back to feet apart” video, you will understand the leg work better too! 😀👍
Thanks Shawn. I just felt like I had to tilt more to ground the sole of a wood/driver than to sole a short iron. I was expecting just the opposite. I want to conquer the tilt this off season.
Hey Shawn, I just got a swing caddy and really can’t get it to click past around 75mph setting even though my driver swing can get up to 105 at times. It’s really opened my eyes to the fact that I’m not using my trail leg much for ground forces but even with that knowledge I still can’t get it to click at anything past 75 or above. Any tips or drills that will help?
The simulator was a Uneekor EYE XO. Not sure how accurate it is to be honest but i used a Trackman last year and got up to 98mph with driver on there. I was able to get the swing caddy to click once in the 80s but only once and for the life of me can’t repeat it.. lol
Those are both good simulators; many of my students use them and they work very well! Get some WD 40 and put a couple drops in there; maybe it’s a bit sticky; one of our units was sticking a bit after a while and that is what was recommended. Then start at 60 MPH and get the thing clicking and work your way up. Send me a clip of you hitting a 7 iron and then swinging the unit. [email protected]
Hey Shawn, you were right. It was sticky and the WD40 helped. I can now get it to click all the way up to 100 but not consistently yet so hoping to work on that this off season. It seems that I have to really let the club pull away from the shoulders and have lots of tone to get it clicking at higher speeds.
Wow. Firm grip fixed a lot of my problems. I couldn’t figure out why I was getting the club high enough in the backswing and this was it. Thanks. Y’all are the best
Shawn, I can’t seem to stop releasing early. I purchased the swing caddie. It is great. Best training device I own. I now realize the effort it takes to get my club speed up but the faster I swing the more I want to release early! Any drills or ideas?
Ok, a few key ducks we need to get in a row here;
1-do you have a task
2-do you have an intermediate point (religiously)
3-can you feel that you are using a nice dose of momentum through the arc-blur and over the intermediate point into the direction of flight?
4-have you used goldilocks to confirm distance to ball, ball position, grip and club face relationship (closed enough)?
videos:
-stick your finish despite the ball series
-throwing series
-arc blur unstoppable momentum series
Hey Shawn, I’m experiencing big improvements since our discussion! Thank you! Do you have any insight as to why an open stance, with the ball slightly back, feels very natural for me to swing the arm club unit (ball on a string) back and through over the intermediate point? My subconscious frequently wants an open stance (with all clubs) in order to achieve the task. Is this because of a some other issue in my swing that I’m not aware of? That said, I am able to hit well with a closed diagonal stance also!
I did watch the two mile marker videos and they fit right into what I am working on. It is amazing how much clarity you gain when you watch a video that matches where you are in your golf game development. Thanks!
