Hi Shawn, I love the “ball on a string” analogy, when I imagine my clubhead being the tennis ball and working in a vertical circle it make wonders! It helps me to get a more upright backswing and to use gravity more
Do you have other videos about this topic/analogy ?
Thanks a lot Benjamin

Yes! See “garage door drill” and “backswing levitation” as well as the “lead hand release backswing” videos

Hi Shawn – I love this drill. After a couple perpetual swings, I can always feel the levitation and kinetic chain engage, which helps me use the ground instead of the arms. My low point is also super consistent. My issue is achieving this feeling from a static position. Since I don’t have the momentum taking me back like I do in the PMD, I find my backswing to be much more clunkier and not as smooth. Do you have any tips or videos to help me achieve the same feeling as the drill? Thank you in advance!

Robert Sanders

OK! So, doing perpetual motion drill with a 7 iron, I find my swing plane and it feels “right”. I notice that at the top of the back swing my hands and the club are more above my shoulder and just a bit towards my head. Is this normal? I must have had too shallow of swing plane before because this feels right.

Shawn Clement

You bet! If you let the arms fall, they should fall in front of you and through to the target and not behind you into the right side of the body with no place to go! See also “how to match backswing to ball direction” and “mile markers for solid contact” videos.👍😀

Thanks for the quick answer. I am an old fart and have bad back, knees ect….so I had to rework my swing so I could keep playing. I have to stand a bit more upright, kind of like Fred Couples because of my back. This new plane fits in perfect. Gonna have to get my irons bent a bit more upright. Thanks for great videos! I found your site on YouTube and got addicted. lol. Common sense teaching!

You bet! Golf is the best! 😀👍
