Sav, I think its a historical video 😅🤘💪👍
Yes, very good Fredrik! Definitely an important video for you! 😀👍
Hi Shawn. First of all thanks for your great videos. You make golf so much simplier.
Then to my question. When I simply use throwing the club to the target I get great outcomes and my hip turn to both ways is good, but when I start to try and get the kinetic chain and use my lower body more by the walking drill I seem to just shift my hips toward the target so that they get far too forward compared to my arm club unit. What would you suggest to do about that? It could be thoug that Im not too comfortable yet with the walking while throwing the club so that I dont let my hips turn in the backswing either so then they dont really turn at all. Anyway, what drills or tasks would you suggest to get the feel for getting my hips turn through impact and not shift?
Thank you
Linda from Finland 🙂
Hi Linda! I am so sorry I did not get the email notice for your question! I just noticed you left this question a while ago; I hope that through watching other videos you got your answer? The “throwing of the club” or the “slashing of the sword” in the “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” as well as the “turbo charge lead hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” are awesome tasks to activate the “kinetic chain” of your human machine.
if this happens again, if I do not answer within 48 hours, please send me the question directly at my personal email at [email protected] or [email protected]
Shawn,
Pawing thru the internet recently, I came across a video clip of you demonstrating anatomically with a skeleton how the hips should initiate the upper body turn in the backswing. Voila, it works great and prevents me from straining my upper back. As I watched a few more of your videos more lightbulbs went off and I signed up for the premium membership. I played yesterday and cut 10 strokes off my normal score. I have never hit my irons as consistently solid as I did yesterday – straighter, much longer and swinging easier by letting gravity do most of the work. Woods were not as good but a I hit a few drives which were way long (for me) and straight. Also I didn’t lack the confidence to use my 5 wood off the fairway instead of a hybrid. I’m looking forward to viewing more of the premium videos and learning more.
Thank You for putting a lot more joy in my golf game !!
Fantastic! Thank you for the great comment and let’s keep going!😀👍
So I recently found your videos on you tube about 2 weeks ago. Up until recently I have been playing what I refer to as old man golf, even though I am fit 35 year old. Anyway just with a few YT tips from you, I have been hitting better and better. I lack consistency right now though.(I just become a member here like 3 days ago, been working through grip and posture videos.)
My question is – When I do perpetual motion drill it feels like some times I am doing figure 8s. Any ideas as to what causes this?
Hey dbgiles! Welcome to the club!
This is a very common issue when you first start doing the PMD; it means you are still in control of the movements instead of letting gravity place you. See “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” and “release fine tuning” to really start letting the weight of the club release your anatomy. Then see a very key video called “grass whip training” which put it all together in a task for you. Enjoy!
Shawn
I noticed recently some of my divots are very big and deep. Strange. Also, while i’m concentrating on the levitation, I still have a tendency to rush or speed up the downswing, and not stay behind the ball. I think the trail hand release will work, but too many thoughts at the same time. Thanks
Hi Scott! What is the main task that you are using?
Shawn
Great question. I guess with all the thoughts going on I don’t have one.
Boom!! There it is!
Please go to “grass whip training” video and dig into that one; pardon the pun! 😝
When you are clear on how you are delivering the task through the stem of the dandelion towards the target, and you stay with it for the duration of the swing, you will get better very fast. And if your full time job was to whip through grass with a nice bladed instrument for 8 hours a day, then you would NEVER RUSH and SWING HARSHLY and you would use the weight of the instrument to do your work!
Also See “top 3 tasks” and “task trumps everything” videos as well as “how to use the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy”
Hey Shawn I love your video series. I see t be having some problems with ” levitation “. Feels ;ike when I levitate sometimes it feels as if I lose my balance. I had a stroke 10 years ago and you helped me get back to the game. My right side is a touch slower to respond and it appears I “over swing” and when I do I end tp top the ball. Any tips for keeping me centered. THANKS
Hey John!
Yes, start with the chipping and see where the club wants to bottom out and place the ball back of that; let the weight of both arms swing through the stem of the dandelion and feel what that contact is like; there should be no topping there if you cut through the grass right?
Then pitch then back to irons; and feel what is happening between those shots that is different than with the regular full swing and get back to me.
It has been working much better. However I would suddenly revert to my old swing. I am not certain if it was from my stroke ( 10 Years ago ) or my previous 40+ years of bad swings. I started playing with my grip presser and improver a lot. I have a grip strength of 4/10 with my left hand and a 1 with my right – it stopped me from blading the ball and had a MUCH better release. I can feel my right hand instinctively firm up my grip. Best contact I have had – maybe ever. THANKS !!
Twelve years on – “outa the way, Outa the way” still my mantra!
And a sweet mantra it is! I tell you Marc, when demonstrating the swing to my students now, it is such an awesome meditation out loud! I am so locked into my task now and the shots keep amazing me to this day; NEVER GETS OLD. We are so lucky to experience the world around us through golf; truly a blessing!!
Sean,
I’ve heard you all talking about the TWO TEE DRILL!! Where would I find it or could you please show us how to do it??
thanks,
John
Hey John!
It all started way back on youtube with the “fishing and golf shawn clement” and then we did “early extension shawn clement”. My bad, because I know it is in a couple videos here on premium, like “walk cut strike” and “grass whip training” but I don’t have a dedicated video title to it. Enjoy those videos though! 😀👍
And truly we could let Sav see the old videos and even the old training manual that came with Skully’s first appearances – Truly HISTORIC!!!
😀👍❤️
Great video, this is exactly what I have been needing. I combined this with the feet together drill from the consistency series. Question: it seems that we need to keep a centered base to the top of the swing, correct? Then, after grabbing the ground, the weight shifts forward? It is a challenge to get the weight shifting forward before the top of the backswing is finished. Any tips? By the way…. I do agree that this is a historic video 🙂
When staying so nice and centred in the backswing; there is NO NEED TO SHIFT FORWARD!! YOU SIMPLY DOWNSHIFT!! 💪🤛🤛🏾👍😀🔥💥
You are already above the lead side and when you are still in “I am going to let the UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM release me in that direction INEVITABLY, the downshift happens like magic.
You are getting there, I can feel it in your words! 😀👍
Thanks, Shawn. Can you expound a bit more on the concept of “downshift” in your response? Do you mean the action of going down to grab the ground at the point of levitation? Just want to make sure I get this right.
Haha, yes, you are still getting your head around some concepts; very important question! Please see “pumping up the swing” and “feet together back to feet apart” which was a huge aha Moment!
Hello Shawn,
My golf shots are very good now. my 9 iron is straight and about 155. Thanks to your good teaching. I wanted to ask you something.
I notice with my Cobra F9 hybrid it has an offset. At least it appears that way. My hybrid shots are always going straight left with a hook. When I open the face a bit. The shots go straight right. But my 5 wood is really good and straight.
Can you please explain how to hit this club? When I do hit it I am getting about 235 or so without even trying.
Please help!!
Paul
This I see sometimes! If you are NOT STRUGGLING with the 5 wood, then you have the wrong Hybrid!! Go try other ones at your local shop and get “tour preferred hybrids that don’t have any “anti slice technology!”

Too many hybrids were designed for big draw bias because too many golfers still don’t have our information. This is why players on tour have neutral-“tour preferred”gear that they can maneuver properly for fades and draws. Ping is nice and neutral and their hybrids are awesome in the G-410 and Titleist has a tour preferred model as well. I have had so many students say “i hit my fairway woods well but hybrids not; what is wrong with me”? Well, hybrids should be easier to hit than fairway woods, so that means the wrong club is in your hands and it looks like the case here.
Thank you very much! I am looking at Ping G410 reviews right now.
Always try before you buy! 👍. Go hit some shots at a Golf Galaxy or PGA superstore and compare with other brands-ask for “tour preferred” neutral hybrids. Taylor made coined the tour preferred term…
