    Shawn, I love how you’ve incorporated the music into the slow-mo; it’s just fabulous. You’re always a few steps ahead! My right brain was just lighting up!

      So I played a round last night and really focused on heaving the club up on my backswing, getting the ground and releasing to the target. I probably had the best round of contact I’ve had in a very long time. The issue I had was there were a lot of big push shots that ended up WAY right of target! I’m trying to hit draws and have the ball back in my stance but I’m curious if I’m either putting the ball too far back in my stance or am not closing my club face enough before putting it behind the ball. I was absolutely thrilled with my contact and beautiful ball flight, the issue is several balls ended up OB right lol!

    Having problems bring the swing from the range to the course. I swing my driver really well both on range and on course, but my irons swings are day and night from range and course. Mental Block!

  • From Dario D'Andrea on Working the Ball

    Hi Shawn, can you possibly tell me what to look out for if I find myself pull hooking the ball? The draw became my go-to shot and has produced some incredible results, but recently, I find myself pull hooking anything from wedges through 3 wood. I am also having a difficult time fading the ball at the moment and sometimes produce the same pull hook when attempting to fade the ball which usually costs me a great round.

    Contact is often spot on with these pull hooks and compression feels excellent. I was thinking about easing off on the club face a little but I have a very weird feel in my wrist hinge when I try that. I will try to get one on camera for you this week on the course. Thank you as always, dropped my average score by 5 this season mostly thanks to your short game instruction! Gotta get myself out of trouble often with these hooks! lol 😀

      That tells me that your backswing AND downswing don’t match the direction you want to start the ball AND OR the club face at the beginning is too strong-closed;

    Hi Shawn,
    So when I use sledge hammer I can feel how the lower body needs to move up and down and turn to control the distance and also the arms hanging from the sockets. Is this pretty much the same feeling I should have with the clubs?

    Broke 80 for the first time with a 78 over the weekend! Head position and tilt has really improved the consistency of my game. I’m taking divots after the ball and making much better contact. Thanks Shawn.

    Would you still be using Nike instead of PING if they were still making golf equipment?

      Good question; but since Ping was always a COMPANY I wanted to be involved with, and that they have been making blades for a while, And now the Blueprint blades! I would say still Ping because of their Drivers, wedges, putters, and all around customer service for everyone I recommend to them. They cannot be matched that way at all. Shawn

    Is there a difference in your swing or grip when hitting driver off a tee compared to 3 wood off the ground? Is it just ball position difference and that is all?

  • From [email protected] on Braced Tilt

    Hi Shawn, on one of your YouTube lessons , create proper tilt, you address the ball open to the target. There is a slight difference in this lesson and that video. I’m guessing that addressing the ball with an open stance is the same as pre turning?
    Thanks

    • From Shawn Clement on Braced Tilt

      Different context here chad because so many line up way too far closed and choke themselves off from the target and have to swing into themselves; the alignment to the left to them is squarer and forces them to release more away from themselves towards the target and has a much more positive effect on their actions.
      Here we do a pure brace and ready the system to apply pressure into the direction we want to start the ball from a solid back side against a solid front side.

    Hey Shawn, I’m loving learning to be at one with gravity! A quick question: is your stance open to help the chest out of the way during the forward swing momentum?
    May the force be with you.

      Stance is a bit open, not much; but the ball is back and the chest is centered in a position that is forward of the ball though!

      Got it, but why not have your feet parallel to the target line?

    • From Shawn Clement on Chipping

      This is something that has evolved quite a bit in the last few years; and much of it has to do with length of club, lead hand dominance, hip and pelvis movement of the individual;
      If you feel more comfortable chipping feet parallel, that can work; there will be more coming on this for full swings, see our “great driver nugget” video from this spring on premium;

    Hello Shawn,

    I am sure you have answered this question already numerous times but I am still unclear about the alignment of the feet. Are they aligned towards the target or aligned where the ball should start like right of intermediate point if you want to draw the ball (for right hand golfers)?

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Ball Position & Distance to Ball - Drills

      Typically, you would set up parallel to target with draw with irons; then play the back of center slightly and release to the right of the target. With fade, you line up left of target (for righties) and play the ball a bit forward of center and release left of target to fade back to it. Ball position and club face play a big role in alignment and it all is organized by the intermediate point.
      Further developments are coming too, first one being the “great driver nugget” video for driver draw we did this spring!

    Shawn – really been working on this drill this Summer. I’ve noticed when I flip release (right hand under left), the club goes left of target – looks hooked. When I feel like I’m pushing the right hand for a better release (right hand over left hand), club goes to target. I also end at a better finish with both hands.

      Hmm, can’t believe I did not see this comment man! Sorry about that!
      Keep the attention on where you want to throw the club; keep going with that and you will feel different little flavours of release as you do them; don’t let those different little feels distract you from your main task!
