    I hope all is well with you and your family and everyone is safe

    I’m finally back on the course after shutdown. We had a lesson right outside of Trenton NJ about a year ago and I have finally begun to play golf more to my abilities. We worked on a lot but the one thing that sticks out in my mind is when using my irons. We worked on using the ground to start my swing and use the ground to release in the direction of the target. We also were using a bit of an open stance and we were working on a sand bag like toss and trying to get me to think I was throwing a screwball with my right dominate hand. We also worked on pushing my hands out away from my body and trying to hit a screwball fade. Prior to seeing you I kept on toping the ball or hitting strong hooks. Since our lesson, I was playing to scores in the high 80’s when prior I had a hard time breaking 100. I can’t remember some of the drills I could use to help me with this motion. Can you please lead me in the right direction so I can continue to work on this. I have played about 3 times since Golf courses reopened. I am hitting my driver better than ever. Consistent and longer than ever. With my irons I’m having a problem figuring out how open my stance should be and how I can get my swing in the correct spot. I feel like I’m releasing at my target however I’m topping a lot of my iron shots. Could I be to far away, could I be not releasing towards my target. I’m not really sure. I do know that when I hit my irons good they are better than I have ever hit them.

    Lastly, since we changed my stance to a more open stance I’m having a hard time chipping the ball. I was wondering if you can direct me towards a chipping video that may help. Perhaps I shouldn’t have an open stance chipping.

      Hey Rick! Great feedback!
      Chipping with feet together is very effective; ball outside the back foot for positioning.
      As for irons; the key is to be able to make a prediction for contact!
      See “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” then see “pre motor cortex series”

      So, you have a task, you throw the release in the direction you want to start the ball and you need to be very familiar with this feel! See “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” and “release fine tuning”
      Then predict the dandelion stem is in the way of this release and then stay with the feel of that release past the ball!

    Hi Shawn, In the back swing when you turn do you feel any kind of stretch in your upper body? I have been turning hips and shoulders together but I notice I feel a better swing if I allow a little stretch in my upper body. I’m not talking about anything intense, just a mild stretch. I also feel it helps me to actually bring in that squat better. I see that in the swings for all three of you that your shoulders are turned more than the hips as well.

      Well, it sounds like you are feeling what you need to; however, stay away from perceptions of what the body is doing and just feel that you are in a nice position to throw the club with ease and a nice velocity in the direction you want to start the ball.

    As a bigger guy, I feel that every time I try to get lots of width/turn in the backswing (especially with driver and long irons) I lose all control of where the club is. Like today with my driving iron I got to the top of my backswing and then wound up dead pulling a shot left and felt my arms change plane at the top of the swing. It happens more often than I’d like. Help?

      Definitely not what you think it is!
      What you are describing is a loss of focus from a distraction where you perceive you are out of position.
      When this happens ask these questions:
      What was the original focus? What was the last thing that went through my mind before I swung?
      Did I stay with my task? And if not, what is preventing me from staying with it?

      So here are the priorities:
      1-you need to be a master of a task; see “top 3 tasks”
      2-you need to feel what those tasks do “POST IMPACT” and they are all the same release;
      3-predict contact and direction from the task
      4-stay on task for the duration of the shot and wake up in the finish well past impact and see what just happened-no making sure

      This question is great, because it tells me I should do a video of what to do when you feel lost and how to use the premium channel more effectively to get to your next level; so thank you!😀👍

    Hi Shawn. So after 3 sets of 10 each clubs, I was able to throw them straight. During the first set, many of my clubs were going to the left. What does that mean? Some clubs were going low. I think, as I released the club toward the target I had to go “deeper” and release later to make them go straight. Guess that’s the object of this drill but I’m not sure.

    Hi Shawn – Great video. This my main drill now. Question… so after I gather the club at the top, and feel the weight of the club as I collect it… I get the feeling the lead side pulling the base of the club down and to the target. Is this correct? Also, I put a laser pointer at the base of a club…. top of the back swing it should point on the wall behind me and stop before changing direction (your levitate vid) and then follow the path inside the ball and pointing to the target on the collect phase. Trying to ensure that the trail hand is just along for the ride on the downswing. Does this make sense? And is this correct?

      Whoa! You are putting too much into this.
      1-Your anatomy, arm and shoulder, is perfectly designed to find the correct swing plane
      2-please see the “kinetic chain” series of 7 videos and “kinetic chain engagement” video on premium; it is the whole chain that pulls the club head through.
      Imagine a lumber jack with an axe; no laser pointers necessary. You could have fun with the Perpetual motion drill as you cut grass in both directions and observe how the laser keeps passing in the same place by simply staying on the task of cutting grass! 🤓

    I hit balls on Tuesday after work and my so tact was mediocre. I went back to the 1 leg drill and hit the ball solid. I then realized my backswing was the culprit. When I heave the he ax in the backswing I think I am kind of taking a step or transferring my weight too far on my right side then turning my hips which was effecting my contact. I then began my backswing by simply swiveling my hips and my contact was amazing. I returned to the range again last night to see if I could repeat my success and it was even better. I felt that I had so much more room to go get the ground and throw the club to the target. Is this just a feel for me or is this how we should be starting the backswing

      Depends on the markers position on the club; sometimes it may look low but it’s not. That could have been a thin shot yes, but she always goes back to the prediction process for the next shot and does not try to fix it.

    Question about the lead/trail arm in the back swing… we talk about the arm club unit… so are the lead and trail arms work with the same outward force? It seems at the top of the swing…. using the weight of the club alone does not seem to get my high enough of an extension. So, if I pull a bit away with the trailing hand/arm… it allows the higher extension. However, I am not sure this is correct. Thoughts?

      Not quite the way to go about it; see the “upward levitation” video we did more recently; when performing the Perpetual motion drill, as you naturally turn to get out of the way of the swing of the arms, the arms get PULLED AWAY from the body and you are just letting them create their own width.
      What engages them further is when you are getting the system ready to sling the action and release into the direction you want to start the ball.

    Shawn – Working on my setup for the chip here…. quick question on the grip. I think I already have the acid test good on the full swing. Is it the same for the chip? (Considering that the shaft of the club is leaning forward… so, if I gripped the club as it is leaning forward, then the grip is turned slightly clockwise around the club. Or… should I grip the club normally, as with any other club (other than the slightly open club face)?

      Neutral grip with slightly open face; we are not trying to compress it and the loft used will mot affect direction. Sole of club needs a bit of bounce because of less force going through the ground and turn too.

      What you mean by keeping the ACU connected is keeping it’s formation and not letting it change from a lower case y to a j right? You are not trying to chip with head covers stuck under the arm pits I hope…😝

      Oh yes, not using any head covers… really focusing on the takeaway from the core with no wrist bend, club manipulation, and keeping the solar plexus and hands in line… bump to the top and let it fall through the shot with a good grip and pressure to cut the dandelion. Is this right idea?

      Oohh yes! Any chip shot we talk about is a bump and run 90% of the time unless it is an open faced chip;
      Pre-shot routine is huge and is present on all shots on course; all working the ball videos;
      1-flight plan
      2-intermediate point
      3-predict contact based on your action to target (see predict contact video and goldie locks series)
      4-what was that feel again? (see pre-motor cortex series)
      5-deliver your task, stay with it, and see what happens (target confirmation series)

      It will feel like 60-40 in favour of the lead side; don’t fall into the trap of thinking about where the weight needs to go during the swing; see “the walking drill” on premium; practice this a bit and then film yourself doing the drill and see for yourself! 😀👍

    Sorry for the multiple posts on this chipping video. So, it seems as if I’ve run into a new problem…. contact. I practiced over and over (and watched the video multiple times). However, it appears that about 50% of the time, I get a ball squirting off to the right. I know I am not hitting the hosel. It appears to be catching the blade, which is open, of course. Very inconsistent and frustrating. I try to keep a rhythm and cut the dandelion. The dandelion is laughing at me. Need some serious help on this simple stroke.

      Thanks for the quick reply. So, on the first question…. I bump the club to create the path to the target and let the club fall and avoid manipulation. I see the blur on the practice swing, and play the ball off the right toe. Is that too far back? I tried a slightly open stance, but that doesn’t seem to affect the contact.

      Great news, Shawn. Worked through this video again in the practice area. I realized my issue…. I was keeping my weight forward, moving into the backswing, but I was coming through the ball, I wasn’t allowing my hips to get out of the way. A very small thing can cause a major collapse. Played this morning after my first full week back on the WIG system and shot an 87. My chips were spot on, leaving me with many simple one putts. Thanks for all your help and this great system. I am still going to get a Skype session this summer. Take care.
