Hi Shawn, what club/loft are you using and would suggest for the first 70 yard shots from the fairway? What about at 50 yards from the fairway? Thanks, Blake.
Hey Blake! A 56 to 60 degree is fine; depending on your swing; goldie locks is your best friend!
Thank you Shawn, I was taught backswing finish positions, quarter, half and so on for distance control. I can see it is much better to use feel with target always in mind. The golf instruction world needs to get away from static club positions.
Love your work
Phillip
Right on Philip! David Ogrin is the guy I heard on TV for the best nugget that would become Goldie-Locks and we just took that to the next 5 levels with the help of Gaby Wulf and others like her!
Shawn, when you say `Trap the ball` do you mean keep your hands forward in order to de-loft the club?
Yes, like when you squeeze it through the doorframe! See “hammer drill” video on premium
Did you choke down on your 9 iron as well as swing at a slightly slower pace than a full 9 iron?
I don’t like choking down as it gives you a false sense of control; where as you want to use momentum from the shoulder sockets down to do the work; the very large majority of golfers I ask why they choke down is that they are trying to CONTROL the club more and MANIPULATE it better; which is the end of the golf swing itself. See “anti manipulation” video on premium. Shawn
Shawn, you have more talent and a better touch than I will ever have. I would have chosen a lower loft club, perhaps 5 iron, and land short of the green and try to roll on. Am I crazy?
Not crazy at all! Depends where you are; if you saw how lush the practice holes were here you would not believe how amazing the grass is; if you play on firm courses, then yes, the 5 iron could easily do the trick; although I would do kore like a 7 iron…
Thanks. God to know I’m not crazy. Maybe my chipper, which is more or less an 8-iron.
