This could be a bit confusing, but I get the throwing concepts and its very helpful. However, I need clarification. When I’m at address and braced , etc to throw my 4 lb hammer, am I throwing on a line below the hammer (its plum line) parallel to the target line extended toward the target? Or am I throwing onto the target line.? Throwing onto the target line out to my left is producing a straight push.
The video is not completely in that spirit; to translate it to the golf swing the way you need to, see “blur of club” video and see where the club is passing when cutting the grass in both directions; (when the hammer would be scuffing the ground as you would be drilling the ball through the base of the doorframe)
Once you see the blur, and match the arc of this blur to the intermediate point and shot shape desired, it will come together better! 👍😀
I can do this well with my irons, and with the more upright swing of the iron it feels super natural. I can combine it with peeling the carrot and get a great result. I feel like when I am throwing the driver, my swing is now more around me, and my miss / dispersion is horizontal, vs vertical, and the result isn’t nearly as good. Not sure if I am thinking about this right, or executing it wrong?
Not wrong at all! That is why we have the hammer throw in part 4 for the driver!! 😀😀👍👍
when throwing clubs do I want to throw low or have some air in the throw or just think about the target ?
Hey Rusty!
1-you need a complete flight plan; where you want to start, how high it will crest and where you want to end. That is the target.
2-you are throwing the club into the direction you want to start the ball; and on a height that fits the picture.
Shawn
So I played a round last night and really focused on heaving the club up on my backswing, getting the ground and releasing to the target. I probably had the best round of contact I’ve had in a very long time. The issue I had was there were a lot of big push shots that ended up WAY right of target! I’m trying to hit draws and have the ball back in my stance but I’m curious if I’m either putting the ball too far back in my stance or am not closing my club face enough before putting it behind the ball. I was absolutely thrilled with my contact and beautiful ball flight, the issue is several balls ended up OB right lol!
Sorry to post this twice but the first time I accidentally commented on someone else’s comment.
This is a job for the “predict contact” and “goldie locks” series; you will love how we get to the answers you asked for!
Hi Shawn,
So when I use sledge hammer I can feel how the lower body needs to move up and down and turn to control the distance and also the arms hanging from the sockets. Is this pretty much the same feeling I should have with the clubs?
Neal
Hi Neal! You bet! And BTW, this has completely annihilated the shanks for 5 of my recent students; it is the new shank killer!!!
