Shawn I just got back from a club throwing session
I noticed my shorter clubs were no problem, good flight plan, right on target (when my focus was where I wanted the club to go, including height which is a biggie w throwing I’ve found)
But with my old driver I noticed a lot of the misses were to the left. The release felt the same as the other clubs but I’d say 9/10 driver throws were left
Do you need to feel that release sooner? Throw more to the right with longer clubs? (RH golfer)
Thanks in advance!
Were you using an intermediate point for the throw?
Always!
It matches my miss at times w driver, I feel like I hang back and sort of flip at it to “help” it up. Misses tend to be blocks or low launch draws.
Kinetic chain facilitation series; use the tee flick into forward summersault with ball on a string task; very sound! Been driving this way for 3 years straight and have never been a better driver in my career! Use momentum to power everything.
That’s a good one!
I think I understand the club releasing me now with the longer clubs. I’ve always tended to get my body in front of the swing and the arms behind me
If I wait for the club head to turn me instead of turning early everything syncs up and I’m getting a nice soft draw with a positive angle of attack
Is that what you mean when you say “let the club release your anatomy”? Like the momentum of the club is turning me through the shot?
Yes, very good!!
shawn I have a link to something u might find interesting about u throwin the club. https://youtu.be/o6aVCqDRK94?si=blF8D4aChoZu6J5f. this is youtube video of jackie Burke. and old pro throwing clubs
Now there’s an oldie but goodie! Thank you for posting this Mark! Johnny Miller says the same thing about the right heel planting in the backswing, already in motion to gather the backswing and then use that momentum to throw the club into the direction of the target (our flight plan) What we perfect in this is using the intermediate point to throw through as well as the “blur of club” through that intermediate point.
Shawn amazing task!…I hit a bucket of balls 5 days a week… the last 2 days have used the throwing the club task intention and my calves are sore like a good workout just happened without any intention of engaging my legs!… proof the genius of the body knows what to do if you just let the task happen…good contact happens and my trajectory is coming down with more penetrating iron flights….more work to be done but it’s fun work…thank you…
MUSIC TO MY EARS!! Way to go out there and do it! Keep the goldilocks series close to keep predicting that the ball is beautifully in the way of that throw! 😀👍👊💪🫶
Shawn, when I try to engage my legs in the downswing with a “squat” to get my upper body out of the way and increase the power of swinging my arm/club unit, I tend to hit fat shots.when I squat. Is the problem timing of the squat or something else? I need to improve my use of my legs to engage the ground with the up and down moves during the swing. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Hey Dan!
the catch is you never want to think about the legs because then you take the focus off the target which will shut the legs down. Go to the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and use the task in that video series of walking while sending grass divots or clippings into the direction of the target. Get really good at this task and then Alternate between that and hitting shots and the swing will adopt this quickly because it is so rhythmic and powerful and big time on path of least resistance just what the brain loves!
