Hi Shawn,

Appreciate all your videos ove the years. My iron play has improved but still frustrated with Driver. I wish I had the success that dlpikester has. I try to have to same thoughts and actions (knife the grip, closed face, slow and wide, effortless, staying behind door frame, over an intermidiate point) that seems to work of with irons, and even three wood as of late, but with driver I either hit a powerful low straight pull to left or high right of target that tails farther right. Niether shot would be in play. Even with a strong grip the 1out of 10 drives I hit on my target line tails like a fade. Any suggestions?

Hi Shawn,
I had an “aha” moment my last range session focusing on a super slow, super wide, effortless full range of motion backswing while keeping the tilt at setup and staying what felt like several inches behind the doorframe completely through the shot. My task was performing a “slow” powerful throw of my trail hand “trigger” finger (like holding the clementine or skipping a flat stone) as deep as I could compressing with that “knife grip” as deep as possible through the tip of the tee to the target. The compression I felt when contacting the ball cleanly when doing that was amazing. I noticed the more I tried to stay well behind the doorframe for as long as possible the better the consistency and compression I achieved. I notice when I see you, Savannah and Mu hit the ball in slow motion from the face on view it looks like your head actually moves back away from the door frame ever so slightly as you come through the ball to your anchored release. Is actually searching for the feeling like my head is moving back slightly while actively trying to stay well behind the door frame and completing my throwing task a key confirmation I am most likely getting the most out of my kinetic chain? The ball flight seems to indicate so. I’m trying not to think of too many things at once so it simplifies to “stay behind the ball for as long as possible and throw the trigger finger slow and powerful deep to the target”. Thoughts on any pitfalls this line of thinking may generate?

Thanks as always for such great content!

Thank you for this series Shawn, all parts of the body in harmony … if you feel that your swing is good and you felt a real pleasure .thank you for all Shawn.happy new year .jj

You always said effortless focused swing ‘out there’ through the intermediate point, ‘Out of the way….out of the way’. My VERY delicate focus means that this swing flavour is paramount to produce a nice attack angle/loft combo that produces nice ball compression across all the clubs. Biggest struggle is with fairway woods. Too steep and “helping”swing but correcting the irons helps with the correct sensation maintaining the kinetic swing.
Best wishes for you Shawn for 2023. Might get up to QC and touch base. Cheers.

As usual, you are spot on! Your buddies encourage you to hit that great big tee shot and you end up with a great big mess of a shot. Why – going for the MAX yardage instead of the smooth swing with less yardage in mind! This series is a very helpful reminder of how to bring your strain level under control during your round.
Happy New Year to all of you at Wisdom in Golf!
