I’ve watched all the task videos and really working on implementing them in my game – testing out which ones work best for me.

Is there a list of tasks anywhere? Particularly for driver, I’m a little stuck.

I’ve got:

Off The Ground:

  • Peeling the carrot
  • Skimming the wood
  • Spinning the tee
  • Cutting the dandelion/grass

Peeling the carrot / skimming the wood works great for me and I like it since I can pretty much use it on every shot right through to chips and pitches

Driver/Woods Off The Tee:

  • Clipping the top of the tee
  • Spinning the tee (except that it’s angled upwards)

Neither of these really works for me

Shawn Clement

Hey Mich; like I showed you in the swing analysis; use the feet together drill WITH NO SPLITTING KNEES keeping those legs tidy to support your centre of gravity and keep the legs in a position to ENGAGE THE KINETIC CHAIN. Feet together and knees together performing the task that resonates best with you and give it time to evolve! This is simple survival stuff that you are already good at and we need to clean the clutter of all the other positional body part junk dancing around in your mind. Do this feet together with Driver too; When you get good at this, you will hit 90% of your distances easily and have a consistency factor through the roof and be a 5 handicap feet together.

Swing analysis was superb! Listened to it 3x already and already watched all the videos you suggested haha. My swing when I make those adjustments feels way ‘shorter’ than before if that makes sense? But in that manner, it feels like it would be more consistent…

Shawn Clement

Yes, it will feel more compact because there is no collapse! 👍😀

I’m have just strengthened my grip. I don’t quite understand how you hit the fade. Is it in the setup or is it what you do with your hands when you come through the ball?

Hi Shawn

Great video. I’m currently struggling with a low hook not on every shot just sometimes when I’m trying to play a draw which is my go to shape. Ball starts right and curves more and more to the right and it barely goes 20 feet in the air. My Miss in general is a hook or a push that doesn’t draw back Can you point me to a video please that will help? I’m left handed by the way.

Thanks Gaz

Shawn Clement

Hey Gaz! Very important to work on fades to balance things out!
see “how to match backswing to ball direction” and then see “fade fine tuning” and then “draw fine tuning”

Shawn,
Excellent videos as always. I’ve recently rejoined as a premium member. I’ve been practicing hard on working the ball both ways as I typically have always had trouble hitting fades. I think things are going well, but I just can’t seem to get much distance with the woods. 7 iron carry is 190 yards so I’d think my potential for distance is decent. Driver carry is only about 250 right now. I know it seems like my strain level is really high when I try to create speed. It also seems like when I try to use the lower body to create speed I end up getting out in front of the ball and I’ll hit some push shots. the speed goes up, but the contact and direction suffer. I just can’t seem to get that effortless whipping speed. I’ve been scouring videos trying to find the missing link for me. At 50 years old I’m not going to be competing with Kyle Berkshire anytime soon, but I’d think I should be able to carry the driver in the 275-280 range easily on a consistent basis.

Shawn Clement

Yes, you bet! That sounds like my 7 iron and my carry is 280-290 with the driver; now it sounds like the deal for you is getting better numbers with the driver and do you have a place you can go to hit shots with a GC Quad with Club Data? This would give us some great information on how to optimize your driver WITHOUT THE EFFORT! Also, please tell me if you have been fit for your driver and what are the specs?

mickey@hillsdaleterminal.com

I don’t have access to a GC Quad but I have a SkyTrak in my garage practice area. My launch is generally in the 14-17 range, spin is usually anywhere between 2200-3000. ball speed generally around 160 +/- 5. Clubhead speed seems to vary greatly. Some days I’m around 105. Other days I can get up to 115-118. I can never seem to determine what I’m doing different on the days where I have the increased speed. I also see this on the course. There are times where I do carry in the 280-290 range on the course and then days where the carry is in the 250 range. I generally use 4″ tees and my Drive is a Callaway Mavrik 9 degree loft with a stiff shaft. I’m not sure about the weight and kick point information. I didn’t get fitted for this, but I tested many different clubheads and shafts at the club. The frustrating thing is knowing that the speed potential is there, just not knowing how to have it more consistently. Your videos are the best in the business. I’m finally getting to the point where I can work the ball with a fade a little more. This should be huge for certain pins or when I get an in between yardage on an approach shot.

Shawn Clement

Ok, good stuff, you are on the right track! It is normal to have some sputters along the way as your CNS is constantly learning; my fluctuations are from 108 to 112 and I am back in the gym 2 to 3 times per week getting the strength back to go to 114-118 again. Your body will show up slightly different every day and like Sam Snead said it best, “you gotta dance with who you brung” and that is why warm ups are important, to see who you brought to the dance and work with that for that day.

AS YOU STAY WITH YOUR TASK, (you have a clear task and clear feel to deliver your task in a very specific direction on every swing right?) your machine will create myelin around the neuro pathways that it needs to deliver your task and you will get better and better at it. It has been measured at 15% better after 1 hour a day for a 2 week period. So stay with your task no matter what as it looks like you have some very solid benchmarks with what you are doing.

Thanks for the feedback. It is greatly appreciated. During my practice session yesterday I had a weird experience that I’m not sure I can communicate super clearly. It’s almost like if I feel like everything is super relaxed and soft at the top of the swing and I’m patient to start the downswing then it’s almost like magic. The speed jumps way up and the ball flight is like a laser. It feels effortless. I don’t know if sometimes I’m still fighting the “hit the ball” impulse. Having the an intermediate target is really helpful to keep me on track for visualizing what I want for ball flight. I guess I just need to keep working at trying to get the speed up without ramping up the effort.

Shawn Clement

Very good!
You have seen the “kinetic chain facilitation series” right? #6 is still my favourite and worth continuously working on to polish the feel of this.

mickey@hillsdaleterminal.com

I just paid for a quick swing analysis. Hopefully a visual of my swing will ensure we identify the things I really need to work on.

Shawn Clement

Ok, will look into it! 😀👍
