Shawn, very new premium member and love all your videos and your explanations. I lost my left eye (I am right handed and right eye dominant) in a golfing accident (my own ball came back off a tree when I hit a driver off the deck trying to scoot the ball around it (I was very close to the tree). My depth perception has never recovered back to normal so I am always trying to find where to look with my good eye on various shots. On your greens side bunker shots, where do you focus? Lastly, I would encourage you to also incorporate some camera views from the bill of your cap so that we can see how much you are closing or opening the club at set up. Thank you!!
Thank you for your suggestions Dunn!
Eyes are looking at the sand about an inch behind the ball but you are not trying the hit that spot; you are spraying the sand on the green with momentum and eyes on sand makes this process much more consistent.
Will be checking out the new go-pro for sure; we will be doing some kore drone shots very soon!
Shawn
Very helpful as always Shawn.
However on some occasions when I open the face I get an unmentionable. Can you say what I need to focus on more to avoid this most frustrating of outcomes please? Or refer me to another video. Thanks again. Regards. Ian
Make sure you see the complete video on chipping on premium; very complete!
Shawn the ball position in the bunker and for the flop looks on your front instep. Is that correct?
Same position for chips?
TIA
Gordon
Hey Gordon!
Just forward of center for sand and flop; chip is on the back foot!
Any advice for bunkers that have almost no sand? One of my home courses has horrible bunkers and it’s really easy to bounce the club into the ball and skull it.
You either have to chunk like in my video on youtube called “sand shot with no sand shawn clement” (yes, I have a video for that too!!😝😎) or a modified long chip swing with the club square from the centre of the stance, which would normally get you a fat chip.
So as far as technique the bunker shot around the green and the flop shot around the green are the exact same?
Correct! One swing cuts through a stem (saw through the stem from heel to toe) and the same swing and set up sprays sand onto the green where you want the ball to land. Very consistent set up!
Is flipping the wrists on sand shots considered a manipulation? Making the ball the target isn’t just what people do on full swings. It’s even easier to do it on putting and chipping.
Well, what is the focus? Are you trying to lift the ball out of the bunker or are you spraying sand FORWARD towards the green with the sole of the club?
It needs to be spraying sand but sometimes my mind loses focus. I start thinking about mechanics and club placement.
