This with the other videos (including the Grip Compression Chamber with the clementine and the Best Video on Grip Ever) have seemed to really help improve my swing and add about 10 yards to each of my clubs. I can feel so much more strength in my grip. I use the interlocking pinky grip. After my first range session and round of golf I developed a rather large blister on the top right side pad of my right ring finger. I’m curious does it look like I’m gripping the club correctly in the photos or is this just a new adjustment which my hands are getting used to and it shouldn’t happen in the future? Thoughts? Thanks Shawn!
Means your grips moves during the swing. When you do the PMD, see what is happening in the grip dynamically.
The blister I’m getting is exactly the blister that you describe in basic maneuvers 1.2 video on my ring finger from the loosening and gripping of my right hand throughout the back, swing with my interlocked grip. I don’t even know that I’m loosening my right hand and causing it to rub. I’m just getting this incredible wonderful blister.
… To avoid the above, I just used a 10 finger grip and it seems to be working good… I followed your advice with the driver and it’s incredible watching my PRGR numbers just increase as I swing for 250 yd drives that just continue to carry further and further. It’s awesome!
Should I get used to playing with a 10 finger grip? Or is there a good way to keep my interlocking grip but somehow stop the loosening effect of my right hand. Would it be helpful if I moved my right hand More on top of my left. In other words, put the V’s in between my thumb and my forefinger of each hand, more on top of each other? Or is there a good video to reference?
Thank you!
is tis something that can be incorporated into the feet together stance?
Shawn,
I am confused on how to grip the club in a strong fashion at address. With the hammer you use a neutral grip and rotate the body. With the club you showed a neutral grip and closing the face at address. If I wanted to establish a setup routine how do you suggest I get into position with a strong grip?
Typically, I rotate the lead arm which is my right arm prior to gripping the club.
This video explains pretty much everything; the rest can be completed with “goldilocks series grip club relationship” and the first video in the “consistency series”
Shawn,
The consistency series cleared everything up. I understand it now.
Thanks,
Good stuff!
Tried this out and gained a lot more distance 20+ yards on a 7 iron. Problem is I’m not pulling to the left of hitting the mat then ball which i need to nip in the bud! Any tips?
You bet! See “contact mile markers” and feel where the low point needs to be at address without over tilting back; when you over tilt, you place the ball too far forward and pull and scrape… also see “alignment reload” as a very important reset for side vision in the set up.
Hi Shawn,
I know in previous comments you mention 10-finger grip is every bit as viable as interlock or overlap. Is there any reason why most people don’t use this grip? To me at least it seems by far the most comfortable/natural (am a formal baseball player so could be some bias) but you don’t see any tour pros using it. Is there any kind of negatives to using it especially if I’m someone built more like Mu? Also fun fact I played baseball growing up with the MLB player you used, can confirm lots of power!
Hey Ryan! We just played the Mexico Open pro Am with Brandan Wu and his grip is 10 finger and strong; fantastic ball striker! 👍😀👌
