Shawn: I like the view from behind as that is how “we” see ourselves as we setup a shot. You might consider doing that more often. Cheers
Would love you to elaborate on that! 😀🤔
Sure. The normal face on POV is what you are used to as an instructor facing the student. The view from behind (and the view from above in older videos) is more of the students POV. Years ago I couldn’t figure out what you were teaching on the draw, until you had the overhead camera angle, then it clicked for me and I can now execute that shot. So being able to see the setup such as stance, foot, ball, club from “my” POV is helpful to me. Cheers, Chris
Great feedback there Chris! Will look into improving on getting more overhead shots indoors and create a special rig for the camera!
Hi Shawn,
This downhill & the previous uphill lesson is “HUGE”. The downhill lie with body in line with the hill and
then here is the part I was not doing – the head “back”
I struggle with a downhill lie to the green about 20 yards out. Same concept or no?
Thanks ,
Will
Yes, you bet! I did a video a few years back on youtube called “chip yips and downhill chips shawn clement” and see also one of my very first videos called “downhill pitch over bunker shawn clement” one of the ORIGINALS! 😀👍
Shawn – What happens if you turn that box 45 degrees. I played a course in Nevada that had hills lining the left and right rough. Nice if your ball rolls off the hill back toward the fairway but not so nice if it stays on the hill part way up/down. If you have a side hill lie but you are off the right edge of the fairway then your target direction is say 30 degrees back to the target and one foot is above the other.
What I tried to do was make some practice swings parallel to my line until I caught a sufficient part of the grass then tiptoed up to the ball. As I recall I hit one pretty good but it was a bit in the toe and the other was a dribbler down the hill. How does your brain figure that equation out?
Yes, there are different combinations of the 2 and the key here is that the lie has to match the flight plan. The simple task that always gets me through is the cutting of the grass in the direction of the slope. If you get a bit too greedy, and you want the target, but you look down and it doesn’t quite fit the picture, then you have to change the picture option to fit if you want to limit the damage and save the furniture. Nothing wrong with a less desirable contact that reaches the green too you know! 😝
My wife is wondering what Sav has been doing to get in shape? She looks really toned! This old man could use some tips Sav!!😊😊
Savy has been working it! She uses the points system from Weight watchers combined with a low carb paleo-ketogenic diet. Has worked very well for her!
Shawn, so when you transitioned from the downhill shot to the shot on a flat lie while still wishing to hit a low shot, do you want to feel more weight on the front or lead leg. For a normal shot, you’d be more like 60/40 front/rear leg so for a low shot would you want to go more like 70/30 keeping the low point in front of the ball?
Hey Kevin!
Yes, it will feel like a bit more against the left side without compromising the solid right side; you are still going to have a “bilateral” and complete weight shift; it will just favour the lead side a bit more. If you were to use the “walking and throwing” drill, it would simply be a low throw on each lead foot step. Make sense?
Yes it does. Many thanks Shawn. Hope you and Savvy are firing well in this new world order. Teleworking has its challenges 🙂
Yes indeed, there was before and after WW-2 and 911; now there will be before and after 2020. Let’s use this time to turbo charge the golf game!! 😀👍
