      Yes, you are bending from the hips which are below the sacrum-tailbone;
      So the natural curve in the spine is unchainged and not strained;
      If you are doing Physio to help it, leave it to your therapist to figure out those details; here you are looking for the path of least resistance to perform a task.

    Hello Shawn, when I am warming up or just starting the first couple of holes I find I am hitting my shorts off the toe. After a few holes that settles down and I am hitting from the center usually.
    Is there some warm up activity that I could do that helps get me to the center of the club face sooner ?

    Shawn when peeling the carrot (I understand that you are directing the momentum forward towards your target), are you also consciously applying pressure down on your clubs to ensure that you cut the peel or is this just taken care of by gravity and the weight of the arm club unit with the help of your set up prediction height at address?

      Oh man, I love these questions; very well thought out and digested!

      You are going to use the weight of the arm-club unit to collect a peel and release it in the direction you want to start the ball;

      I absolutely love where we stand right now; our winter sessions with my new crop of students from the Royal Quebec have seen incredibly fast and lasting results; everyone is so happy and stoked!!

    Hi Shawn,

    Just watched this video on contact, and it gave me so much confidence. I had a stroke a number of years ago, and now struggle with ball contact sometimes. I address the ball at the toe of the club, to get central face contact, and after after watching this video, now feel ok with that, THANK YOU!!

    Hi Shawn, really enjoy the way you explain the swing. With driver I struggle to control the club face when I really let the momentum of the club go and throw the club towards the target (open face). All other clubs I have much better face control. On video I tend to keep everything ok in backswing however the club falls open during downsizing and needs to catchup right at impact. Would appreciate any recommendations on how to improve this. Cheers!

      If you feel the need to close the face MANUALLY in the downswing, then your club face is too open to begin with! Please see the first video on my “consistency series” and the “weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement” video on youtube, an oldie but goodie!

    At the range off a mat I can hit the ball pure and straight. Get out in the course I go into reverse pivot and hook. Any chance of some fault cure drills?

      Question: what was your focus when you snapped hooked the last shot?
      Here is the video you need to see:

      It was a video that we put out on the regular channel from the premium channel to see if people were ready…they weren’t!
      This is such an important comment that you left because it really shows the deep brainwash that the golf teaching industry has imprinted on us will keep us in the dark for a very long time.

      Here is the focus sequence that is going into my book, it will help solidify the video that I just left for you:
      1-pick an “end target” or a place you want to have the ball end up

      2-pick a flight plan that fits your ability to get the ball there; please INCLUDE THE HEIGHT OF THE SHOT or peak trajectory before it falls back down towards the end target.

      3-find an intermediate point that will set you up into that picture-so that when you let the weight of the club release you to the target, you can predict that the ball position, the distance to the ball, the posture, and the grip-club face relationship will fit the flight when you let the club track itself into the direction you want to start the ball.

      4-set up done? Prediction of shot done?  It is now OUT of YOUR CONTROL, just give control to gravity and let the weight of the ACU release itself in the direction you want to start the ball. Look for the feel of that low effort and nice whipping velocity that unleashes that ball into that flight with freedom and abandon!

      5-DID YOU LET IT?  DID you stay with the feel of that release to that direction?  Or did you get distracted by “making sure” of a position or something else making noise around you? 

      If you stayed with it: how was the direction? how was the contact? How was the balance? How was the strain level?
      If you did not stay with it, something short circuited you and you were trying to do something else; what was that you were trying?  What were your concerns?

      6-The most important stat in golf is how many times (there are average 36 full swings on the golf course) were you able to stay with your shot all the way to the finish?  Can You CONFIRM WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT YOU felt the release of the club in the direction you wanted to start the ball?

      This is a BIG TIME MOMENT that will have you stop chasing your tail and thinking that there is something wrong with you; YOU ARE NOT DEFECTIVE! YOU ARE ALREADY PINNOCHIO WITHOUT THE STRINGS! 😎😀👍

    Foolish pride keeps one from laying up on a par 3 (or any other hole for that matter). I have laid up both intentionally and unintentionally. On a treacherous hole it usually worked out pretty good. Play to what you can control. Great advice.

    You went out of your way to showcase Goldilocks (GL) again. I would expect that experience plays a major role in learning the ‘feel’. When the weather clears, I was thinking of practicing the GL method by actually ‘confirming’ the three predictions. e.g “This should land 10 feet short in the heavy rough”, then actually hit a ball to confirm that. Then do the same for the long shot. Then of course, the real shot. Would that work? Would the process of confirmation sharpen the learning or muddle what we naturally have?

    This strategy has occurred to me at times but I’ve never been of a mind to try this. I may just go find me an Executive course with a bunch of par 3’s and fire at the pins on the first 9 then lay up the 2nd 9 and see if there is an impact on my score.     Shawn,
    I always felt that I had a sound grip, but I would grip with my left hand under the club (I am a left handed golfer). Over the past couple weeks the first knuckle on the left ring finger became very sore. I started to review your grip video’s. I found Grip it Like Cameron Champ. You make a comment about how both hands should hinge together. The next time I hit balls, while addressing the ball I focused on settling up and making sure that I always feel that my hands can hinge up and down together, so no gripping under the club with my left hand. The first thing I noticed was there was not pain in my ring finger when I hit a ball. But I also felt very lined up, and ready to swing, and I started to hit the ball solid with much more compression. I never will over look my grip again!

    I noticed that you have a very high finish. I seem to play better when my finishes is more around.
    When I finish high the club feels out of balance. But when I finish around the club feels lighter and more balanced . And I have more control of it, it seems. What are your thoughts on that.

      My left handed finish is a bit more around my back as well;
      Bubba is a forehanded player, Sergio is backhanded (lead hand domininant)
      That is why my right handed swing is more up and helicopter finish, and my left handed swing more around; you are good to stay with yours! 😀👍

    Shawn— I have been struggling on the back 9 of an all-par 3 course. But, I love what you teach because when I execute, its wonderous. I don’t ask you alot of questions but I have Three key questions—

    1. Does the tucked right elbow feel at address “stay there” and the torso transports the arm and club untit to the top? If so, I tend to lose the arms hanging from the shoulder socket feel which is so important.

    2. Please direct me to a video where you really go into detail about WHEN to bend the right arm and hinge the wrists in the backswing. This is my most difficult part under pressure in a round! I need help when and how to do this things.

    3. Coming down, from the ground up, does the tucked right arm get transported by the torso again so you get through the cut? If so, it does NOT feel wide. So, what is feel of the arm-club unit with the tucked right elbow….what keeps the structure? Do you just “leave it there at the top and start down, doing nothing wiith arms?” Or is there an independent feel of the arms-club where its Not being transported or slung by the torso.

    On the down swing, my culprit is want to manipuate or control the club with my left arm, which produces bad results and destorys the second pendum from happening.

      We don’t talk about tucked right arm; we simply talk about room for the right elbow IN FRONT OF THE BODY; then we use the weight of the arm-club unit to cut through the stem of the dandelion in the direction you want to start the ball; don’t think about where the elbow is in the downswing, stick to the task!
