Speaking of club head blur, Cameron Champ has some blur going on. Wow. Impact sounds like nothing I ever heard before. His technique is right out of your text book: He freely turns the body on the back swing. No manipulation at all. Everything is geared to be released to a target. For trouble shots, he talks about creating a picture…… Your phone is going to be ringing off the hook!
You have been teaching the blur technique for some time now. It works very well for me. I also use it for putting. ‘See the blur on the line you want. Feel the distance. Lower the machine. Let it go.’ I have the higher handicappers in my league using it for putting. A lot of their nonsense on the green went away.
Right on Jon; all those moments in my earlier years of teaching wondering why my stuff was so different and if I was on the right track; but my knowledge of anatomy kept me on the right path and now I am sure many teachers are waking up to Cameron Champ wondering WHOA, what the heck is going on here?
To hear Sean Foley now talking about FEMUR ROTATION and now others copying my anatomical quotes on their videos (like Verbatim) and Brandel Chamblee and his guy Lucas Wald singing the same song is very cool; they have quite a ways to go yet as they are still very positional in their approach but now our stuff is in a very different light!
Hi Shawn. I just realized that the way you teach – is the way we should PLAY. Whereas there are other teachers (who are also excellent ones) who teach the way we should PRACTICE.
What I find interesting here is you are teaching us to PRACTICE the way we should PLAY. Target focused. Less on mechanics. More on feel.
As always, you know I’m a fan of your stuff but I have noticed something about grip pressure versus wrist hinge and I am not sure I’ve ever heard you bring this up. I use a strong grip as you know and I hold the club firm. So during practice swings my firm grip is fine, feels good, all synced up. ACU on plane, everything moving but………..
When I move in to the ball, with my brain target oriented, inter point picked, ect,. I believe in my mind I’m gripping the club with the same firmness but I have found I’m over doing it. When I over do the pressure, it!basically tenses all muscles from triceps, biceps, forearms and hand. The tris/bi’s I don’t mind but the forearm down cause a major malfunction. Too much grip pressure will lock your wrists up. It will lead to an improper hinge on the way back which obviously is going to ruin the shot.
This is something I am assuming. If you grip the club too firm, you lock your wrists down due to tensing the muscles that run though that area and although they may hinge it is far from in sync and fluid and a full hinge.
So the questions are:
Does too firm bind the wrist hinge?
If it doesn could you address it in a video or point me to a video?
Seems if you don’t have a video on that exact topic and it is a real malfunction, many many many will benefit from the explanation.
I love Hogan’s ACU when it comes to the arms. Forearms and forward side of the elbow facing the sky (elbows pointing at hips), doing this with a strong grip is easy considering I literally rotate the face square at address and this puts my arms in the Hogan recommended position. To me it takes any slack out of the AÇÚ and allows for an opportunity to limit a flaw.
Not at all; we have not seen any issues for many months!
Have you tried a different browser or have you updated your browser? And go with Firefox or Google Chrome or Safari of you can…
Absolutely great video. I love the idea of sending the momentum toward your intended line while working the ball left or right with the incorporated idea of the tree line.
The goldilocks approach to the set up has added much desired demensions to my ballstricking.
Shawn, just having a little reflection on why certain draws have a mind of their own, is it normally the result of not having a deep enough feeling in the release because of the lack of recruiting the complete body from the ground up or the feeling of becoming too static (upright) behind the ball??? Tough to put into words I guess.
#1 priority: can you confirm that your focus was on the feel of the effortless whip releasing in the direction you wanted to start the ball AND DID YOU STAY WITH IT?? Did you feel that snap release way past the ball with top speed way past the ball towards the direction you wanted to start it??
If no, then don’t waste any time wondering what went wrong when all you did was ABANDON YOUR POST. 😝
Hey Paul! Will be in Atlanta in April;
And no, for the mid irons and long irons, higher means more carry a lot of the time; as long as you whipped through it with ease and velocity!
About to plug Wisdom In Golf on my Facebook page! Don’t laugh but this year alone I’ve tried Stack n tilt, Rotary Swing, The A swing and Swing machine golf (Big Time Tinkerer)with marginal results. Hooked up with Shawn’s site and “WHOA!!!”…. 62 yrs old and always had decent swing speed( Driver 118mph) but could never find consistency till Now ! I even traded my Titleist AP2 ‘s for PINGS! Best clubs ever! Keep up the great teachings my main man!!!
I always focused on the ball. I would glance at the target, get aligned, then go over all these positions I was supposed to be in. Yep, Paralysis by Analysis! Some days were good but most were just frustrating. Now I pick out a target and burn it into my subconcious, heave the club in the backswing, get the ground on the downswing, then throw that sucker at the target! I have always struck the ball on the toe of the club with my irons! Not now baby! FLUSH CITY! I intend to be an EAGLE member until this body gives out! Kudos Brother. My golf buddy just joined Premium too! Its super cold in Indiana right now but I hooked up a skytrak to my heated barn and watch your videos Every Evening so I can be ready for Spring!
Shawn, This video is so important ! It not only shows the lead hand motion , it shows when & where it occurs post impact along with the way the whole left arm moves on the follow through and most importantly how the body then is pulled through up onto my left foot. At the 10:30 section in the video is where the light bulb lite up. Wow! Is this the sequence you prescribe?
Awesome Video!

Hey Shawn, I still can’t seem to get any heighth on my 19 deg hybrid or 15 deg 3 wood,. Really comes off face hot but not far from a worm burner? Feel like I’m throwing club at target?
I had bettert results right out of the gate with the pitch. I sculled many chips at the range. Can I think “squeeze ball through door frame” for chips, like I do in pitches and the full swing? p.s..—Since joining the Premium Channel, I am going to play on an 18-hole All Par 3 course tommorow. My FAVORITE video on the BASICS is the Battering Ram, leading with eblow. You also explained the release better than anyone with the hammer and other heavy objects!
