This video beautifully shows the different task when using the driver. I also find when I maintain the tilt using my cap as a guide, it is impossible to rush the through swing,
Hi Shawn,
Thank you for another great lesson. I am Michael from Singapore and discovered your lessons on Youtube by accident and since then have been enjoying every bit. I am also trying your pointers at the range.
I have just signed up to be a premium Eagle member to learn in more details your great tips.
For a right handed player like me, you mentioned about using the left thigh to generate power (club head speed, i supposed). But how can I prevent the club from turning around my left leg excessively, in other words too early?
Is it by keeping my head back which I am trying to do but not easy as I have a tendency to lunge forward.
Also I am still learning to throw the club as taught in your other lessons. Thank you.
Hi Michael! The first order of the day for you is to get yourself a nice task. See the section we have on that and choose a task that resonates with you.
since you are acquainted with the throwing the club, continue with that but add your predictions in there with “predict contact” and the “goldie locks” series. The throwing of the club in a specific direction through your intermediate point with ease will eliminate 99% of your “swing defects”. I like predicting that the stem of the dandelion will get cut if I stay with throwing the club through the IP.
I can shape all my clubs exactly the way I want to (thanks to wisdom in golf), but the driver still eludes me. I know what I am doing wrong, when I see that broken tee I think to myself “you idiot, you defaulted to the ball again”, but I find it so hard to stay with my shot. Will try to work on that feeling of the head being pulled back.
Love the video. The head back… bolted and centered has helped me already as I started practicing this. However, at 14:00 you talk about “escaping to the left” …. I watched this video a few times and don’t quite understand what that means. Is Mu trying to hit a draw, and it’s maybe fading on him? I can’t see that ball flight in the video. Thanks in advance for your help.
Yes, correct! Not letting the ball slide off the face to the left for Mu; when he engages the swing freely, and his kinetic chain kicks in, he releases nicely; as soon as he has a bit of “be careful” in the machine at address, it gets messier… 😝
That’s what I have been dealing with, but I staying back. When I widen my stance just a little helps my head stay back and foot anchored so it’s harder to move ahead of the ball. Now I know why that works. The tilt helps that happen as well. When done properly length is not an issue. Good video
Love the video. Would the throwing the head back and weight on front foot work for irons too in helping to stay behind the ball?
I have had a lot of success in using the lead hand release for the swing. I was surprised as I’m very right handed. It works great until the trail hand (my right hand) feels that it wants to join the party 🙂 Any tips on how to overcome that?
Means you are getting close! Don’t prevent it from joining though; if the task is front and center, it will get in line and work in sync. What happens exactly with your shots when you think you are using too much right hand?
Shawn would love to add wrist hinge to my swing however when I do my shots go left (right handed) more left as I progress to the driver vs no wrist hinge, please help.
Hi Shawn, Good stuff. Can you tell me or point to the vid that talks about the tees you have setup on the driving mat? I am thinking they are for some type of alignment?
This video is a great add to the most recent coaching you gave me to let me head come up. I have been struggling with it but now I see that if I focus on moving the head back it comes up naturally. Played really well today just working on that. Thanks!
Right on Mike; very good! Just finished a lesson where we added 30 yards to her shots getting her behind he doorframe instead of her dipping the head forward and throwing herself out in front of the ball trying to keep her head down…
Posting this one again, since I think it got missed in the server upgrade, but I have really been struggling with my putting, and now coming back to this video. Since I am taller, I have been trying to make a more solid base up to my hips…. straight legs locked and bending only at the upper hip, then using the shoulder rotation, similar to Bryson DChambeau…. but obviously not as good, since my results are poor. Not working…. so what do you suggest for someone taller?
Working on the braced tilt along with the bolted and centered… so the idea of standing on the rails is spot on for me. When you talk about starting the swing… I like to think of grabbing the ground and almost turned of the lid of a big jar to force my hips to make the turn and allow the club to react to that. Does this make sense?
Big Big tip from the top. Very helpful cant wait to get to the range. will watch again then head straight there to get the feel and visual will bring the phone for refresher . Thanks
Hi Shawn,
Latest video anchored lead leg, head back great video. I noticed when I performed this task that some weight remained on the trail leg, is this ok. It seemed ok to me
Cheers
Phillip
