Shawn, what club do you recommend for a greenside bunker?
A lob wedge; 58 to 62 degrees with 8 degrees bounce with a dual sole grind like the TS Wedge from Ping; the “C” grind Jaws from Callaway or the “M” grind from Titleist.
Hello Shawn, I didn’t see you lowering the hands for the bunker shot. Do you recommend to keep the hands at regular level like for a standard shot?
No need to lower the hands; at all; just focus on the task and set up to allow for the task to happen!
this is a great video. Spraying the sand makes it easy. Two follow up questions:
1) When you spray the sand. What sand are you referring too? The sand under the ball? Or maybe the sand one inch behind and past the ball?
2) My home course has bunkers that contain very little sand and very very very firm bottoms making it difficult to get any sand to spray. Its like hard pan. How should I go about playing this shot?
A divot of sand, 1/2 inch deep; ball is a grain of sand towards the back of the divot inch before the back end;
I did a video called “no sand bunker shot shawn clement” on youtube!
Thanks Shawn!
Sorry shawn “A divot of sand, 1/2 inch deep; ball is a grain of sand towards the back of the divot inch before the back end;” was bit difficult for me to understand, could you rephrase this?
As long as you play the ball just slightly forward of centre and focus on spraying sand onto the green where you want the ball to land, you will be in great shape; do not let the ball distract you from this task!
Shawn, is your stance somewhat closed, or is that just a camera angle issue? Also, your spraying sand towards the target is amazing!!!!!!! I am getting up and down from everywhere now. Thank you
A lot of it is the camera angle for sure; and yes, isn’t it easy??😀👍
Thanks for your reply, I truly appreciate your love of teaching. You have changed the game for me, and I try to tell as many of the people that I play with about you and your methods. Thanks again.
P.S. I have a small suggestion…can you add links to videos that you put on YouTube in the member section? I try to remember to go there and look, but I feel like I miss so many of your videos.
Thank you for the suggestion Travis; I will keep this in mind!
Shawn
This sand spraying has changed my hole bunker play. Before i didin’t like bunkers. Now it’s much more fun. Even if i miss i normally know what went wrong. Even bunker play practice is much more fun now! 👍☺
We should have a spraying sand fight video; like kids playing innthe pool spraying water at each other;
With protective glasses of course! 😝
