It occurred to me while doing PMDs that the braced tilt feels just like middle of the return swing. Since we’re starting centered – not in motion – we preset the return arc/backswing. Is that true/correct?

your address position is like a moment in time in the PMD, your arms are already tracking g forces on the arc that matches the flight plan and the body is already in the process of getting out of the way of these tracking arms. So I am 60-40 at address and then actually going even more into the left side and up, right heel slightly up, and then returning into the backswing by planting the pressure into the right foot to clear the body out of the way of the tracking arms into the backswing, then nananana-transition back into the left side from behind and kinetic chain engages for the target bound journey.

Yes! Love the way you explained that. This is an amazingly illuminating reality. Thank you! I really enjoy how everything you teach harmonizes together. It has opened pathways to self-discovery; so key for me.

This is one of the most meaningful and impactful lessons I’ve ever had on setup and posture. You’ve answered a question that 20+ years of instruction could not. My takeaway: the setup should be preparation for absorbing impact. The brace tilt puts me in a position to get a solid turn and be braced for the pushback of the ground forces on my left foot. I haven’t found the “Goldilocks” yet, but after experimenting with 20 shots, I achieved a blade‑7 carry of 185 yards several times—with more probably still in the tank.

It’s not so much about the exact hip tilt angle or knee bend that shows up in most traditional golf instruction. It isn’t wrong, but that mental approach has always left me wondering if I was doing it right when standing over the ball – the last place I want to be wondering if I’m doing it right! Getting into a position that’s braced for impact is something my brain and body can automatically connect with. I now “know” its right. This is an amazing lesson.

I also noticed (picking this up from your grip lessons) that the middle two fingers of my right hand are where I feel the compression most. I can feel the club face impact cleanly in those two fingers.

So I did a little expirement. When I clench my fist, the most pressure I csn generate on my palm is from the middle and index fingers together. So when I focus on clamping with those two fingers and supporting the compression with my index finger, the ball comes off the face solid and sweet, and I can feel it in my hand, up my forearm, down the shaft, and into the face. What an addicting sensation! Amazing stuff, Shawn.

Does setting up to a sledge hammer help get the feel of a braced tilt?

yes! Take a look at “contact mile markers” and “tilt mile markers” as well as the “hammer drill” videos! 😀👌💪

The hammer drill was the answer. I’m hitting much longer and straighter with a stronger grip. Compression is so much better!

I’m eager to get back on the course with this lesson and the posture lesson. While I have been bending at the waist, I feel I haven’t been bending enough at the knees. I was doing this more the last several holes of my round yesterday and played hit the ball much more solid.

Good stuff! Use the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” #6 to integrate! My favourite video!
