Can you close the driver, woods, hybrid the same way?

Shawn Clement

Absolutely you can! But not because you do it a certain way with the irons; many of my students close the woods more and many close less and others the same; use goldie-locks based on your target bound release and enjoy the process of fine tuning those fades and draws (use fade fine tuning and draw fine tuning videos too!)

I’ve been totally amazed since the first time you showed how to close the face until you got a huge hook. You have to close the face alot before anything really bad happens. Surprised many times how straight the shots go. Until I can get a good draw going from a in to out swing I have been sticking with the closed face.

Shawn Clement

Exactly how it happens with the vast majority of golfers out there! 😀👍

Hi Shawn,
I caught that with Mu’s first utlra closed face swing. He essentially re-gripped the club. I’ve seen that video somewhere….. 😉 A habit that I had to break also, negating my closed face. Fantastic video. I’ve embraced the “closed face” lifestyle.

Shawn,
As I watched Shav hit the ball left with the face open for the fade and then the amount of face she had overly closed for the draw I could see the contrast. Then when she hit her normal shot I couldn’t tell how much she had her face closed for her normal shot which I assume is a draw. In the next video can you have her show how much she has it closed in relationship to the face being neutral.
Thanks,
I think I am finally getting it.

Hi Shawn,

Good video.

I’m struggling with how closed the face is. If I close it as much as your suggesting I’ll pull it to the left. The divot is also angling left. Doe this mean that I need to change my swing path. In my mind this is a out to in path. I’ve also tried to aim to the right (but feels very unnatural as I’m aiming a long way left… appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers
Bruce

Hi Bruce! If you stay with your stock face angle at address and I told you to play the ball back of centre, get behind it and let the swing go to the right of the target, would you not think I was crazy because there is no way that ball would ever draw back towards the target? This is the predicament that most golfers are in right now. See the first video in the “consistency series” and then see “draw fine tuning” as a start.

The first order of the day is to see the ball CURVE LEFT, and not go straight left. Straight left is just a square face with a path that goes left which is confirmed by your divot angle. You swing left because your club face is WAY TOO OPEN. Once you close it enough to see the ball curve left consistently (yes, you will pull draw the ball for the first few and this is the idea) then your brain can PREDICT that when you close the face a certain amount, the ball will CURVE LEFT. GUESS WHAT? Now you can swing to the right of the target and stop coming over the top and you now know the ball will come back for you!! 👌👍😀
