Hi Shawn thanks for analysing my swing and telling me I’m aiming far to right the thing is i I’m always set up for a draw and i pull my right shoulders back so it makes the back swing easier on my back and hip .I’ve been doing what you said aim left and swings towards the target only with a 7 iron not sure yet if i could do it with a driver as can’t make much of a back swing with out hurting my back what do you think cheers Steve

Shawn Clement

Hi Steve; ok good feedback; in that case the “diagonal series” is for you and if you go along those guidelines, you should be in good shape; let me know how you get along.

Lyle Goodman

When I match the takeaway to the club path direction I feel like the clubface stays pointing at the ball and the line past the intermediate point. At the top of the backswing it still “feels” like the clubface is still pointing at the ball so I can cut grass past the intermediate. Sound correct? Just for understanding this allows the club face to stay perpendicular to the swing arc?

Shawn Clement

With a strong grip it does feel like that yes! You could compare it to the “hammer drill” where you physically take a hammer and position yourself to drive into a door frame. A really solid ball striker by the name of Ryan Fox from New Zealand who is on the verge of winning on the DP World tour does exactly this as well as Brendan Steel, Paul Azinger and many more and of course Savy. This will feel less rotational through the ball. My anatomy needs and has more rotation which will feel different and looks and feels more like the “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” videos. Keep me posted to your progress!

Hi Shawn thanks for sending me the videos of you hitting the ball properly unlike me I’ve got you on my swing analyzer so i can look at you then me can see what you mean your head moves backwards mine goes forwards my club in laid off .do you think with my bad back and left hip it would be better if i bring my left foot well in towards my right leg also my left arm is quite bent in the backswing your’s sav and mu looks straight .been checking out the backswing direction video i think i seem to bring the club to far inside cheers Steve

Shawn Clement

Hi Steve! Yes, please let the lead heel come off the ground immediately and let the lead knee rotate in behind the ball as the butt swivels towards the target! See “diagonal stance series” too! This will take the strain off the lead arm and allow for it to maintain more natural and effortless width in the backswing!

Steve Horner

Hi Shawn just seen you hitting from in the rough under trees you hit a low fade can you shape your shots from any lie as from our muddy rough under trees i just seem to get it out to the fairway. To hit the shot you did would i need a fast swing speed and power or just more skills as i can only hit my driver the distance you hit your shot.

Shawn Clement

There is a saying in golf: “You gotta dance with who you brung”
speed is important for spin yes; start with throwing some clubs and go over all the “release” videos and get good at that first; then use the “goldie locks series” to put the ball in the way of your throw; then the “target confirmation series” to lock in on the throw and full snap release past the ball!

Hi Shawn watch a video of you being interviewed probably in the early days of wisdom in golf you were asked why you not on tour bottom line answer you not motivated by winning unlike someone like Ian poulter I’m the same i go out and play golf to hit the shot i want to hit be it fade draw high or low play golf yesterday still not hitting draw with driver but can do it with 9 wood could i be setting up to far right as i was in jim venetos academy before he has you setting up 45 degrees right although I’m don’t think i am cheers Steve
