Hi Shawn. I think this is a great video as it really helps one get the feel of how the chain works. My question is: if the speed of the hips unwind faster when we come out of the squat as the club is thrown, will this give us faster swing speed?
You bet! See “club speed” and “turbo charge lead hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release”
And then see “kinetic chain” and “kinetic chain facilitation series”😀👍
I think minute 6:16 of this video is what I needed to see. You start the squat with your back to the target. Yes or No? Thanks
Yes, you bet! This is what will happen when you stay on task and use the weight of the arms and club to deliver the dandelion stem into the direction you want to start the ball; see “kinetic chain engagement” series as well as “task update” uploaded recently! 😀👍
Two questions…. I love this up and down movement to send the ball into the picture…. works wonderfully with my irons, but I seem to clip the ground with driver on the way through. And my second question…. how do I keep my head and upper body from being pulled forward? Your position appears to be slightly angled back and your head maintains close to the same horizontal position.
The longer the clubs the more outward the movement and the lass up and down it will look; the key is to stay with your task and simply not try to keep levels or anything of the sort and just allow the action to evolve.
In this video, you talk about the circular movement. In my practice range session yesterday, I realized that this movement needs to start after a full turn and my back to the target, as I grip the ground. So, my tendency is to swing through to the target before going to grip the ground. So it seems that my focus needs to be…. grip the ground at the top of the backswing (levitation)…. then the circular movement to the release on the planted front foot. Do this make sense, as I think this through?
Sounds good! This is what you would do to heave the sledge hammer!
At the end of this video, Shawn talks about the next video about taking divots. Can you tell me the name of this video, please?
See “matching task to targets” videos; it’s the one where we talk about sending peels! 😀👍
