I am really struggling to understand what is the meaning of Width in a back swing? Every time I try to do my version I try and stretch my arc outwards away from me to the max, then it gets tough getting back.

Shawn Clement

The key is to do it WITHOUT STRAIN! See “super slow super relaxed super wide backswing” series and feel it properly through this drill.

amarjot Bedi

thanks. regarding the drill itself-

  1. the turn that we do to lift the door is the actual feel of the golf turn? I am nowhere near it. Been doing the feet closed drill and I do feel its making me pivot more. This is a whole different feel.
  2. How often does one have to repeat a drill like this if I want to understand it the way gym trainers explain sets.
Shawn Clement

Did you try the drill? You can do it with a simple wall behind you; place the outside of your right foot right up against the base of the wall and then lift your forearms up to your shoulders palm facing forward and turn until your hands are flat on the wall and you can extend them all the way up. The backswing portion of the “lead hand release” video is awesome for that as well.

amarjot Bedi

yes, using a window (didn’t have a garage door), the turn is a way way more than my turn, just asking the feeling doing the drill when arms are extended and I am turned is that what the actual swing feels like or we are talking excess here to get an idea of the feel.

Thanks for putting up with me . I have tried everything you have mentioned. Awhile back I would try whatever new task that your free videos would suggest. The course I play doesn’t have a range so I can’t build my swing like I would if I was at the range. At the range I start using the sledgehammer for for chipping then hit pitches with feet together , then feet apart .. I try to match the blur of practice swing over the ball and predict that I’ll miss the ball but confirm that the blur is going in the direction of where I intend it to go. For irons I use throwing horseshoes where I get a feel of my legs being the power source. On the irons it’s more vertical and the driver is vertical with a little rotation.added.. For the irons I use the hammer task of hitting the nail in the door frame to make sure I have tilted spiral but I still am trying to see if the blurt matches . With the driver I am using battering ram task.. Every shot I hit even the putter I’m trying to see if blur. matches up and actually see it during the shot. While I’m playing I’ll take practice swings with my lead arm only with opposite end of cub and cut the bamboo stalk. I also find myself saying “don’t let your arms hit you on the way good back don’t let you arms hit you on way going through. I also try to feel like I am already in perpetual motion but I try to do it at a little slower speed then if I was actually doing the perpetual motion drill . I like slow motion back swing for seniors video (I am in my seventies) I am also trying to use Savvy’s grip . Driver I can go about 45 degrees closed and still hit it semi straight with a little draw . Irons I have to have it less closed. Still working on that . Nothing worse than hitting a drive on a par 4 inside of 100 or 50 yds and pulling second shot left. Yeah that is about it.

Shawn Clement

Ok, nice report! Stay with those tasks and see how things evolve; there will be highs and lows and stick to it!

I’m not good at asking questions. My earlier question dealt with idea of how is slamming the garage door related to strain free golf swing. To me some aspects of earlier teaching’s don’t mesh.. Should I be abandoning the ideas like “from hear I can whip the snot out of the ball.. I have been watching your videos since the days of your black outfit and microphone(priest look)it’s frustrating trying to “own WIG”swing .I’ll have eureka moments where I actually break par for nine holes . Then the next day swing thought isn’t working . Swing thoughts I use are all WIG ones. I thought becoming premium member would help clear up confusion but it’s really not . I know you have helped thousands of golfers including myself . I am thinking my old game needs a break from golf. I have easily played over a hundred rounds this year alone . Waiting days for replies that really don’t answer questions adds to confusion

Shawn Clement

Hey Mark; it sounds like you are not being patient enough with your tasks; please tell me which tasks you have had success with and I will help you from there; the concepts have not changed; the deliveries have been polished thought and it sounds like you are getting close!

Mark Sewell

What year was this made it seems like I watched 5 or ten years ago I wish the premium golf videos were dated . Your teachings have evolved over the years . I’m focusing on newer premium videos with strong grip and braced tilt . I can get a rough idea when video was made by which facility it was filmed in but as a new member I thought premium videos would be revised versions if you used older lessons. Your teachings have made me a better player in many ways . I am still fighting the right hand push . How do you pull down with right arm if palm is facing up . In order to get the feel of the left hand releasing out in front of me towards the target I have to back off the trail hand a little . I keep the right hand air tight on the left hand but it seems like it is just there for the ride. My practice swing before shot is with double overlap just to get the feel of the release out front. If I think about braking glass in garage door slam that release won’t happen

Shawn Clement

Hey Mark! See the “list of videos by date” and the videos go from the bottom to the top. The next step for you is the understanding that the swing is a kinetic chain; just like all the other sports and disciplines out there; so see “kinetic chain series” and then see my still favourite (they all are😝) “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and at the tail end of that kinetic chain is the release so see our very latest “important release update” which you use to deliver the divots or grass clippings to the target. Continue Enjoying and sending me feedback!

Matthew Costello

You suggested this is my analysis and it REALLY clicked for me today. Incredible ball striking! Adding the wrist hinge + this is going to really make some big gains for me. The ball was flushed over and over today! Thanks Shawn.

Shawn Clement

Right on Matthew! We can thank Julia’s issues for that from back in the day! 👍😀🫶
