Hi Shawn,
After a long period of neglecting your advises and accumulating issues with my swing, which led to losing the enjoyment of playing golf, I’m back to the basic series, and I’m confident it will help me a lot.
I have one question: when you gripped the club at 8:30, it seems like you didn’t close it to 45 degrees—it appears to be straight instead. Is that an illusion, or is it because your body is already tilted?
Thanks a lot!
Hi Alexandre! You can go up to that amount easily, and this will fluctuate as you continue to evolve. The important thing is that when you let the swing or task go to the direction you want to start the ball, that the ball flies the way you want it to. And it is very ok to get some nice hooks at the beginning to give your brain predictability that when you swing to the right of the target, that the ball will come back for you. See the “goldilocks series” and the “grip and club face” video in there and then see the “draw fine tuning” video
Thanks. I will go in my favorite practice range for trying it.
TIME WELL SPENT! 👊😀👍
Shawn having a little trouble maintaining balance on the follow through on this drill. Feels like I don’t quite keep my torso back over my front leg. Any thought would be appreciated.
Hi Richard! See the “stick your finish despite the ball” series, very solid stuff for you in there! 😀👍👊
Hey Shawn, I have been improving but 1 out of every 10 shots or so I hit a really nasty off the planet snap hook and it’s killing my rounds in terms of scoring. I tend to stall my lower body and my hands get super active in the downswing. I’m not sure why but i guess it could be a lack of focus or task but Is there any one swing thought I can try to snap hook proof my shots?
Hey Frank!
REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT DEFECTIVE AND CANNOT POSSIBLY DO ANYTHING WRONG!!
1-when that shot happens: what was the last thing going on in your focus just before you swung?
RULE 1- NEVER RELEASE TOWARDS TROUBLE
RULE 2- NEVER PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION TO STRAIN
-How far were you trying to hit that drive that hooked?
-what was the effort level on a scale of 1-10?
-Did you stay with your task to the finish?
-were you trying to avoid trouble or were you CLEAR about where you wanted to drive the ball and were you comfortable with the choice of shot?
Shawn
Thanks for the advice Shawn. I think i tend to snap hook when trying for more power/distance or when trying to avoid trouble on a narrow fairway. Will try to ensure there is no strain and focus on release to a sport in the middle of the fairway vs trying to steer it and see how it goes.
Good! See “target confirmation series” and “stick your finish despite the ball” series
Great video, Shawn! Would letting your right arm fall to the target be a good task?
Yes! The assembled “arm-club unit” falls towards the target; see “battering ram” and “shawn’s new favourite drill”
I’ve been working your system for almost a year now. Yesterday felt the heave in my takeaway. It just came to me as I continue to breakaway from swing positions.
Awesome Krista! You will see a new guy on the PGA Tour scene who is a Neurologist and his stuff screams wisdom in golf and the way we bring things to the table! Stick with it!

You’ve had some great podcasts with guests who have addressed mental performance. Really good for everyone and as a competitive golfer I really appreciate hearing about these elements. For me practicing mindfulness while golfing is my super power. Being able to have “control” over our thoughts and emotions is where it is at and golf never lets me down for providing opportunities to practice 😁
Thank you for the great feedback Krista! You rock! 🫶👊👍
