I loved seeing this. I struggle with my backswing and trying this drill might help me. One question I have is ball position. Where should my ball position be? I want so bad to get compression with my irons to increase distance and to actually drive the ball over the 210 yds as I do now

Shawn Clement

For draw, a hair back of centre for irons; see “hammer drill” which is awesome for compression; see the first video in the “consistency series” as well to go with that and then get the release under your belt so you can collect the ball properly from where it is and RELEASE it into the picture. Type “release” in the search box and watch all the videos involved.

Hello Shawn,

great slo mo series, thank you.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts in a comprehensive video review specifically about ‘tension/ relaxation’ (hands, arms, back, etc ) ?

Sort of: ” you cannot expect to swing efficiently if you have … tension in your ….; or :” a good swing requires that your …. remains completely relaxed/stretched/ etc. “. ”

Most of the time it is rather tension than lack of understanding of what I intend to do that hinders my swing dynamics.

Thus, what are your “goldilocks of tension” ?

Best regards from a Black Forest covered in snow.

Glad you are enjoying! And thank you for the suggestion; this is something that I have been thinking about and will continue to mull over as I continue to teach and at one point, I will have the recipe. Just had a very interesting session online yesterday with a student that is struggling with tension. Shawn

Great video slow mo. A centered cantilever on a shock absorber. I sometimes get thin shots with the head set back but with a good tempo and loading the front leg and then clearing the hips…bingo…effortless compression ball, grass, +/- dirt….thanks Shawn

👍😀

Just Great Shawn ! You cannot do too many of these Slow Motion videos in my opinion. I hope you have plans to do the Snap Release . I want to see (When/Where) in the swing you begin releasing the angles created in the Backswing all the way through Impact. I want Deeper Lag , don’t we all ? 🙂

Allen Hanlin

Yessir Shawn … Great ! … Now how about striking a ball, putting it all together in a normal full swing.

Mark Cohn

I was thinking the same. Would love to see a Slo Mo striking the ball in a full swing. Cheers!

Thanks for these videos….What struck me about this one is how anchored your head is behind the ball. With the head tilt/turn it is like your left eye is staying right over that gap you talk about between the leading edge of the club and ball when cutting grass. I know that is a function of the swing not a part of what you are ‘doing’ but for me that anchored head with feet together does two things, it feels like I end up hitting behind the ball and also feels like it limits my ability to allow the release to the right of my IP. Wish I could replicate that feel/look as my guess is it will unlock some freedom and speed on the release.

Shawn Clement

The purpose of feet together is to use the returning of the butt to catapult the arms and club into the direction you want the ball to start. If you see a ball and try to hit the ball, good luck!😝. So what are you getting ready to experience when you address the ball?

tftaz@cox.net

I like the toss/toss feel that results in a release toward my target. I use a feature in the background like a gap between trees to give me a spot in the distance that I’m trying to toss my club into. I don’t always feel the release so then I have to play around with trail hand release and I start to get that feel about 1/2 the time. But during this practice, it is a challenge to compound ideas. I did play around with this some yesterday and it works fine if I only do 1/2 swings. It is only when I do full swings where things fall apart.

OK…off to the field I go clubs in hand! Thank you.
