I love the concept about this drill but it feels very uncomfortable getting my hands further away from my body. I think this is something I need to work on as I have been hitting the toe of the club with everything and I wonder if it’s because I’m not keeping my head behind the ball throughout the swing as you describe in this video. The result of my ball flight are indicating I am not releasing towards the target and am pulling way left. I almost feel as if I need to start learning to hit the ball all over again as I am struggling and losing confidence which is perpetuating the problem. Any drill suggestions to help me get my swing path and release in order?

Okay, so on Youtube, you had a video about 4 months ago with Sav, that had the jack knife drill in it.

I always thought that when I did that drill that I was doing it wrong because when I would let the arm/club unit fall through, it LOOKS like my shaft is out away from my body, and that there is no way I could possible connect to the ball. But I tried it today and I got the ball just fine.

So when you talk about how people think they are going to miss the ball, this absolutely was the case for me. I don’t know if I’m explaining it well here, but another AHA moment after watching videos that I’ve already watched…… hahaha

This is such an important concept.
I realized yesterday that by learning to hit at the ball, I tend to get the ball too far back in my stance.
I realized that throwing through the ball, collecting the ball and throwing the club over the intermediate point, I have to stay down…. you’ve talked about it a lot in various videos, but it’s a completely different throwing feeling…. a better throwing feeling 🙂

Yes, great observation Krista! When golfers whip the club AT THE GRASS to see where the low point is, it will absolutely tend to be too far back in the stance, and when you place the ball there, then you continue to make the problem worse.

When you start delivering the action to SEND THE GRASS CLIPPINGS OR DIVOT to the target through an intermediate point, then the low point changes and comes more forward to where the ball now needs to be close to centre. The jack knife is a great vessel for that and has helped a ton of our students get the THROUGH THE BALL experience which is the one that gets us to “bliss on a stick” 😀👍

Is it good idea to use this same setting for football or battering ram drill?

Hi Jukka! Sorry I missed this one!
yes, the drills we use in our teachings are all meant to bring you to the same goal, which is through the ball into the flight plan! More ways to get to AH HA! 😀👍

hi shawn! great video and i love this drill. however, there are times when i try to execute this drill and get my hands “ahead” of ball before i release, i tend to “hold on” to the club and this results in a push.

is there a way i can prevent myself from overdoing this?
