Shawn thanks for kind offer to view my swing. I need to work on “backswing master class ideas before making any videos. Can I take a rain check. I’m the self – conscious type.
You bet Mark! Backswing masterclass is very much that!! 👊👍
Shawn had a pretty significant lightbulb when you shared this video!
I think it even answers my Q in the forum
I’ve been rolling the face open a little in the takeaway, so the whole “let the arms fall “ or “match the backswing to the direction of the IP” never really clicked because my face was just wide open, even w a strong grip
The sensation of keeping the toe of the club turned down in the takeaway so the entire club face is matching the direction I want the ball to go is huge. I don’t feel that rolling motion anymore, and the club being square the entire time is a totally foreign concept to me
But I totally get all the times you’ve talked about letting the arms fall. When I keep the club square in the takeaway (and the whole swing), my lead arm is forced to rotate in its socket, because the forearm didn’t do the job for it.
This keeps my shoulders on a steeper plane instead of turning very flat, which prevents excess arm lift, which gets me into the slot better (backswing slot, I even thought it was odd my upper shoulder was crashing into my chin and blocking my vision of the ball sometimes!) , which allows the arms to levitate up naturally and allows my brain to tune into the weight of the club
I can be as wide and relaxed as I want with this feeling and gravity will start the downswing for me. When I was bunched up there was no momentum in the machine
Long rambling post but feeling gravity start that downswing for me is a new sensation!
Nice post!! Well done!! 🔥👍👊
Shawn do you have a video on how to correct toe hits, specifically with woods [ toes shanks].
Christian! See “football drill series” and combine that with “blur of club and arc blur unstoppable momentum series” as well as the incredibly important “alignment reset” series for resetting your side vision which has a high influence on undesired path in the swing!
If I use hammer drill with two hands and I pound a nail vertically down and then I set up behind the ball to hit nail into wall or door frame I feel like it causes me to slightly rotate wrists in CW position putting my lead hand more on top. This is what my earlier question was about. I have been watching your videos for at 10 or 12 years . I have watched most of the premium series. I am in my seventies but as many people have commented that I don’t swing like I’m that old. I owe a majority of what I do right in my golf (putting ,chipping ,driving and being able to to draw or fade the ball the majority of the time All due to your teachings )
But I have struggled with irons since trying to use Sav’s grip. Some days great but others not so much Unable to predict day to day
Ok, there is a case where you can overdo the strength of the grip; you don’t want to feel that you have to hang onto the release or else hook the ball. When you do PMD drill, you want to be able to feel the weight of the club release you freely in both directions; send me a clip of your swing face on and down the line so I can see it for myself? Use my cell and text me at 416-455-5576
I am using Sav’s strong grip and using braced tilt to square up club face at address on draws. When I do that my lead hand feels like it is on top making it feel weird to have it feel like it’s underneath going back Am I missing something here?
Hey Mark!
see “important grip update” video and then see “match backswing to ball direction” for backswing direction.
