The doctor and I share some of the same issues. So it was extremely helpful to see the view from another perspective. It is difficult to get away from the ball being the target. However, the big four and the 9 steps you gave me are consistent. Feeling for the snap should be the focus. I am recalling that task trumps everything. The only task that communicates feeling the snap is throwing the club. I too need the bigger turn, narrower stance. I tend to use a diagonal stance however I am going to observe the trail foot being open. With my feet square there is no way I can snap it left. If the front foot is open I can snap it straight or right.
Perfect!! ????????
I keep watching this video as it speaks to me in a very powerful way. I remember in my session with you that I had the same discovery in that I should be going for a point past the ball. If I was hammering or grass cutting I could not consistently stick with the intermediate point. My very first lesson you told me I needed more width in my backswing. Watching the feet position and how it opens me up for the backswing is huge. Especially as my rear hip is bone on bone. Staying behind the hit I have heard you say for years. Now I can stay behind the hit, get a wide backswing, and whip the club in the direction of the intermediate point which keeps me centered. I have the sledge hammer and an axe in my living room. I can practice and see how my intentions control what my body does and how accurate I am. I understand what you say when you say does it match your picture. This is much easier than trying to find a specific point. For example it always feels like my ball is forward in my stance. Now I do not care about that. My concern is where the ball is allowing me to stay with my task knowing that I will smash it in the direction of my picture.
My body is very sore today so I am not playing. However, I am getting up for a few minutes at a time and working on the drills I saw today.
These videos are great! Do the arms and hands do anything actively in the downswing, or are they 100% reacting to gravity & momentum? I’ve watched a lot of your videos & want to make sure I am not adding anything that doesn’t belong. Thanks!
arms are not active at all, completely passive. See “no arms” series
Love these two videos. After watching the first I took it to the range and really focused on being wide and turning my backside to the target and slinging instead of guiding. Huge improvement particularly in my short and mid irons and some improvement on my woods. Long irons were still not great. I think a big part of the problem was being too ball forward in my stance-with pulls and big slices being the result. Any recommendations on what to work on to really get this down?
Make sure distance to ball is adequate! Hands cannot be same distance to body than mid or short irons! They need to be farther! This is a big one! See Distance to ball in the “goldilocks series”
