Hey Shawn – this is nuts! I just went and played around with it with a 4 hybrid and after I got it down, I nutted every shot. It is very strange how it is so rock solid. My question is how this would relate to the normal full swing – are you trying to just ingrain that shaft horizontal up segment of the swing?
The drill seems to do two things for me: 1) Sets the club/arm position/angle and 2) It totally eliminates any variation in the position at the top (i.e. an overswing). It also kind of relaxes my whole chain – reducing tension – increasing the average speed delivered by removing the tense/bad shots.
Super cool! Thanks for such a great drill!
Andy
There you go Andy! Exactly what this drill was meant to address!
Train it will all clubs at the range for a couple sessions, even go out and play 9 holes with it on the golf course to match it with the targets to give yourself a good dose.
then alternate on the range 2 shots with and 2 shots stock and feel the differences in the areas you mentioned. You can then use the drill to make your practice swings with.
Shawn
So is there any reason why you can’t just use the drill as your normal golf swing because I thought that’s what you were saying at the end of the video?
No reason why not at all! 😀👍
Great drill Shawn! Very similar what I have tried myself last weeks: let my backswing go into the direction that I feel that I am the strongest in the thru-swing (which is actually the same as when doing the axe-drill). This drill feels very much the same.
Good stuff Kenneth! 👍😀
Shawn – I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years and since becoming a Premium member of WIG, I am playing my best, most confident golf yet – THANK YOU! Question: this is related to this drill, but also your most recent YouTube video about driving the ball high and low. For the driver, where are your EYES focused? I know I am “feeling” and swinging toward the target, but when I attempting to clip the top of the tee, are my eyes focused toward the center/bottom of the arc or a blade of grass just behind the ball. I hope this makes sense. Thanks again!
Pete
Hi Pete! Great stuff, congrats! My eyes are on the tee itself but my mind is on the task of seeing the “arc-blur” of the sole of the driver clipping the tip of the tee on the way up and into the direction I want to send the ball. If you see “task update” video from a couple weeks ago, I am doing the same with the tee tip and flinging it into the direction I want to start the ball. Keep having fun! Shawn
Thanks for the drill . I tried it and it has helped me. I am having a little trouble with my release and follow through I’m not fully releasing and I’m blocking shots to the right. Could you recommend a couple of videos that would help me with my release and follow through? Thanks. Scott
Hoho, you bet!! See “lead hand release”, “trail hand release”, “release fine tuning” and my favourite, “snap release polish”-then see “turbo charge lead hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” and “pumping up the volume-swing”
