This is where I get stuck…I love the feel of throwing the club and can do it in the open field. However, two things happen, when a ball gets there, I hit way too many thin. even after goldilocks. It does not feel like a compressed impact, it is more like a slap hit. Maybe it is the mats we have to hit off? Second I can not wrap my head around the collect and release…with the hockey stick you collect from behind and release after a foot or so of time on the stick toward the lead foot/skate. With golf that happens in a split second & in a fraction of an inch…do you actually feel the ball on the club releasing? Would it help to ‘wrist shot’ a few golf balls without a swing to get that feel? Help!
Go straight to the “hammer drill” and the “mile markers for contact” video.
feel like you are compressing the ball through the doorframe with “already existing momentum” (the series going on right now). You are collecting the compression and releasing through and out in the direction of the IP; SEE THE BLUR OF CLUB LEADING INTO AND THROUGH AND OUT OVER THE IP. The “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” is awesome to match up with this as well. Let me know how you do!
OK…I think we are onto something. Diving into the arc blur series I noticed the when throwing, and I was too far away…I know you’ve said that a bunch of times in your videos over the years. The next question comes from how to best get set up. I figured this out by watching the blur on a perpetual swing but could not repeat the blur location from address. I had to make room for the arms by sticking out the back side a bit more at address. I’ve not yet figured out how to address the ball other than do some swings, look at the blur and tippy toe up to the ball, then sit down a little so there is room to clear on actual swing. Any thoughts on a better setup process or will I just reset my normal feel after a while?
Ok, you are on the right track; your next step is using the legs adequately in the swing where they are reacting to the swing and the release of the weight of the arm-club unit. See “feet together back to feet apart” and “turbo charge lead hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” and the latest “momentum already there before you swing”
also what comes to mind is the “stick your finish despite the ball series” which has created a lot of Aha moments for ball getting in the way of the swing. And when you say make some room in the butt for the arms, that is “football drill series” for sure.
I definitely had that “Ah ha” moment with distance to ball you discussed in this video yesterday. I realized when throwing at the target I am much closer to the ball than I’m normally accustomed. It was actually kinda cool. I never thought I was reaching for the ball until I just let the throw happen. Do you tend to see an even balance of students who prefer presenting a closed club face at address with a perceived visual neutral grip, or a strong grip with square face? I think that will be the next thing I experiment with at my next session as I believe one will give me less tension at setup.
The grip-club relationship is pretty split 3 ways! Strong-Quare; Neutral-Closed; or COMBO.
So are you saying for normal shots, either a slight fade or draw, because you are throwing the club and therefore leading with the hands, that at address, the club face is slightly closed?
Yes, exactly! Have a look at the first video of the “consistency series” on our premium channel, it will confirm what you are understanding in another cool way! Shawn
I certainly will, thanks.
