Sean, I have read Dr. Wulf’s book and taken lessons from you in Dallas and it has helped me immensely. I went to my local golftec to observe my progress on video(while placing a target on the net) and see that I get lazy w/ the turn of my hips both in the backswing and especially in my forward swing which leads to loss of posture and hand manipulation. I know from my time w/ you, studying your videos and her book I am not supposed to think about my hips, but, when I see it on video despite my best efforts to focus externally it is frustrating. I would appreciate your thoughts
Ok, good; this is where drills such as the “feet together drill” come in very handy; also, the videos on the kinetic chain series; have a look at both in the premium channel and then get the feel for the kinetic chain when THROWING SOME CLUBS. Throwing the club drill will really bring it alive!
You guys have some nice wide open spaces in Texas don’t you? 😝😀😎

Great explanation Shawn. How should we balance throwing versus not focusing on body parts? It seems that the intention to throw will draw our attention to moving body parts. I know that I a missing something from your explanation. Could you please elaborate?
cheers,
Gordon
Pick a task that is so familiar that you don’t need to think about task Gordon!
Skip a stone-throw a frisbee-cut through the bamboo with a machete; cut through the stem with a grass whip…
Very good and thanks Shawn!

Hi Shawn,
I’m newly retired and now have the time to immerse myself into your teaching wisdom. I have always been a student of the game. As you have suggested, I have purchased “Attention and Motor Skill Learning” and “The Anatomy of Greatness.” Can you point me to your videos that outline how you evolve from “technique/position” learning to automatic/target learning. We all need some technique work. But how do we go back and forth through different modes of motor skill learning? By the way, swinging anatomically, has enormously reduced pains in my shoulders and hips!! Thank you for that!
Please advise….Thanks in advance!
Dan
Great question!
The series you want to pay attention to is the “Off Season training series” which is a series of 20 sessions;
It takes you through various TASKS, while enjoying a session at the range and brings you to feel the sensations you need to feel to acquire a nice skill!
The end result is “I am going that way with this feel and I predict that the ball will end up flying the way I want to when I do perform that task!”
